I am a new Jeep owner . . . and have a couple questions.

I do a little bit of not to serious off roading and was thinking I wanted to purchase recovery straps just in case I need them and even for helping someone stuck in the mud/snow.
Help me if I am wrong with this . . .

1) I was going to get 2" (20,000lbs) without the metal hook incase they break, they have straps with the nylon hooks that I was thnking to get.

2) Just want to make sure . . . If I need to help someone stuck in mud or snow, can I use the recovery strap hooked to the "u" shapped hook on the back under my bumper? and do I use the two hooks on my front bumper depending which way I need to pull.

Your help is appreciated.

P.S I have a black 4 door Sahara, Wrangler Unlimited.

I have a 2007 Wrangler X.

I'd suggest getting the one you are talking about (without the metal hooks. If you need to grab on to something, you can get a d-hook to help secure to the other vehicle (or inanimate object if you will).



As for which one (front/back) to use, it doesn't really matter. I pulled my VW out of 4" of mud using the front and then pulled the engine out of my brother's sunbird using the rear.

What is the best way to fasten the nylon hoop to the vehicle being pulled? I know it needs to be attatched to the body. Is there a place that works the best?

That all depends on the vehicle. If the other vehicle has a trailer hitch, I'd probably use that.

If it's a BMW, wrap the tow rope around the driver's neck.

I would attach to the frame rather than the body however that may be just a difference in terms we are using. If you look under a vehicle you should see lots of places to connect a rope to on the frame however keep in mind that you will be pulling out and up (seeing as how the Jeep is typically higher than most other vehicles) so watch the bumper/body panels.

 

I say it all depends on how stuck he is, and on how mad his mom and dad will be when they find out. or if it's the guy that says. Quick, pull me out before the cops get here. Tie it to the first thing you see. HIM.

Use the hitch if possible, but most cars do have a Tow hook, or Hole front and back.

 

Make sure the straps are CSA approved, don't buy cheap ones. I got mine from Acklands.
