Just ordered my new Rubicon on April 11th. Each day seems like a week.

That seems like a really good deal unless UPS gouges me with brokerage fees.
I am hoping to get the Aberle aluminum bumper. http://www.aberleoffroad.com/jeep.html

The synthetic rope and aluminum bumper should save me about 60 pounds of front end weight.
My question is, should I buy new rims, 35's and a lift now, or wait till the stock 32's wear out?
I am worried about warranty issues with a lift kit as well.
It seems there is a glut of stock wrangler wheels for sale on kijijji etc.
What could I get for a new set of 5 rubicon wheels?
Does anyone know of a tire dealer in the Toronto area that would give me a fair deal on a trade-in?

I was an old scout owner. I loved that rig. But, rust sent it to the scrapyard. Lift kits for those old leaf spring rigs sure were cheap.

Good 4 to 5 inch Wrangler lift kits are extremely expensive. Two inch coil spacers and a one inch body lift may let me run 35's more cheaply and keep the stock shocks using extenders. But, that seems like a mickey mouse setup. Is anyone running a coil spacer/bodylift combo?
The other nagging question is, can the rear tire carrier hold a 35 without deforming the sheet metal?

I am looking forward to fun and informative dialogue on this forum.

I wouldn't put a 35" or even a 33" on the rack on the back door, that said I know guys that do it and are waiting for it to fall off on the hy. Figure the weight and continuous shaking, if the hinges don't go then the rack will fall off. For a lift, you have already spend big bucks for a nice jeep, now you want to go cheap on a lift you won't like later on. Wait do a proper job. Get a 4" suspension lift and put your 35's on you won't be sorry. It will probably run you close to $1000. after you get the steering box armour, larger steering stabilizer, and a COMPLETE kit. There are a few good ones out there, but shop around. You might even install it yourself if you have access to a garage, we did mind in 1 1/2 days too many breakes (coffee, donuts, muffins) Remember the higher you go the more unstable the jeep becomes. I would suggest stick to a suspension lift. Warrantee's I have no idea on sorry.

First thing; Welcome into the jeep Family
A 35 with rim weight about 105lbs, U do the maths for the hinges and the aluminium spare carrier and oh! ya! won't fit with the third light.
Also 35 and OEM rim = back spacer.
Mine is 5x450.00 for the tires and 5x160.00 for the rims, my the suspension which is a 3 1/2 Rubicon Express = 1500.00, so a total of 4550.00 + taxes.
But it all depends of what ur looking for looks or Off-Road, U might also need bigger fender flares to cover those tires cause U need at leas 4 1/4 of back spacing.
Also if it's an Auto trans U will need to reprogram the computer cause of the OD.
As for warranty check with Ur dealer first cause some do not accept any modification and Ur in for a nasty fight with the A** H**** at the counter.

I just bought a new 2010 JK Rubicon 2 two door.
I have a Currie lift kit and custom built fox reservoir shocks on order
I plan to go to 35 inch tires.
I need a front winch bumper and a rear swing away tire carrier that will never break or rust.
I looked at Smittybilt for a front winch bumper and a rear tire carrier.
They are made in china. They suck.
I do not want Chinese recovery points on my jeep.
When a recovery point fails, someone can get hurt or die.
Heck, I was trying to find a non-Chinese alloy rim for my tires. But, that is another thread.

I like the American made steel bumpers. You can trust them. They were made by tradesmen, not slaves.
But, they rust and look bad after a few winters of salt up here, in Canada.
I want a stainless steel front winch bumper and rear tire carrier bumper combo that can hold a big tire.
But, no one makes them.
Rugged ridge sells a front stainless shorty but, it can’t hold a winch and has silly chrome plating.
Give me the dull, boring, tarnished look of stainless, the stuff you see on bridges and buildings that lasts forever.
Does anyone know of a company that makes stainless steel products in North America that fills these requirements?
If not, I will go with Aberle bumpers.
They look good.

But, aluminum corrodes a lot faster than stainless.
I think I will go with Aberle aluminum unless anyone can enlighten me.





However, I cannot get them shipped up to Canada from Colorado.
I am working on this and I hope to get a Canadian retailer to carry them in Ontario.

Stainless steel would be way better but, no one sells stainless front winch bumpers or rear tire carrier bumpers for the JK.

i used to own a sail boat so am aware of the benifits of stainless steel but an ss rear bumper and tire carrier would cost huge $$.
i bought the LoD signature series rear with tire carrier.
looks great, slid straight on with no issues and is bomb proof.
when it starts to rust i'll give it a tremclad bath.
