NEVER exceed these intervals and always change the oil based on the indicator system equipped in your vehicle as it may alert you sooner than the maximum.
You'll likely be fine with the maximum as you mentioned very low kilometers are being put on per year.
Continue using a good quality oil, synthetic if you choose and you'll be all set.
I average less then 1,200km a month and I've had my rig for 17 months yet Chrysler insists I come in every 3 months as I have been. *shrug*

Chrysler?
Sounds like your dealer looking to pad his service $'s.
I'd contact Chrysler Canada about this dealers insisting on 3 month changes with such low mileage.
If he's pulling this with you I'm sure your not the only one.

maybe, I got low kms but I drive 5 - 7 days a week. I just don't go very far, and I try to hit the highway at least once a week.

AutoJunkieMan,

Different dealers will make suggestions for certain services and maintenance schedules however your warranty booklet and owner's manual provide you with the most accurate/appropriate intervals.
So long as you follow the manufacturer's recommended service intervals, you'll be ok.
But having fresh oil in your vehicle is definitely an advantage as far as engine performance and longevity.

Or maybe they know something about the engine you don't know i.e. they want to monitor it for burning oil or sludge issues....but of course they don't want to tell you that.

Or they just want to pad their pockets.

I do mine every 5K....i might change it back to 10K.

So the new engine cannot burn or sludge? It can happen to any year, model or make of car.

Just saying.

So your suggesting that a dealer could be selling a brand new jeep that they may suspect has a bad engine that they know is burning oil or sludging up.
First off how would they even know this when most new vehicles arrive with almost no km's on them?
Any dealer knowingly selling a defective new vehicle would not be a place I would count on for my service.
I highly doubt this is a possible explanation.
