maintence--oil change

wrangler 2015 sport 2d automatic--
Dealership says they like to see oil changes every 3 months, they don't like aynthetic because then you don't show up for a long time. My jeep is my atv/motocycle.snowmobile year round but i don't put on a lot of miles,so really every 10 -11 months would suit me better,in that period i would not approach the required milleage for a change.I had a 2010 wrangler and it got traded with 20,459 km so you can see its not a lot of driving Any recommendations here thanks I want to do whats best for the jeep and its quite a drive to a dealership which i prefer while its under a warranty |
Re: maintence--oil change
The vehicles computer will tell you when you need a oil change.
That being said I change mine at 8,000 km's. Rotate tires also. Didn't see a prompt from the computer & the shop said it wasn't due yet. Did it anyways. You don't have to go to dealer to keep your warranty valid. Just proof it was done. Many oil change shops will keep these records for you. |
Re: maintence--oil change
Look in the book that came with the truck. It will tell you the recommended oil change interval and what to use. Use those guidelines.and you can't go wrong.

ok thanks for the ideas

Re: maintence--oil change
My dealer actually uses synthetic. I don't go there because they charge more than is justified, but I do mine at a quick change Pennzoil and its all logged in their system. Every time the oil light comes on or 10,000 km, whichever comes 1st.

Re: maintence--oil change
I like what you are saying, light comes on or 10000.km
With me that might not happen for quite some time |
Re: maintence--oil change
Hey Woodman, with the low k's you put on, once a year would do fine. I've got less than 10k on mine, just over a year old. I'm on the "once a year with synthetic" interval myself.

Re: maintence--oil change
thats what I felt and its good to hear that news.
This 2015 has the alarm saying to change the oil,so at least the dealer won't be calling every 3-4 months They just want the 59.99 oil change Would you switch to synthetic? |
Re: maintence--oil change
Put 2 or 3 thousand kilometres on first, then switch to synthetic. We sell a private label (valvoline) synthetic oil for $26.99/5litre jug. With the little bit of difference in price, you can't beat the added protection.

NEVER exceed these intervals and always change the oil based on the indicator system equipped in your vehicle as it may alert you sooner than the maximum. You'll likely be fine with the maximum as you mentioned very low kilometers are being put on per year. Continue using a good quality oil, synthetic if you choose and you'll be all set. |
