Canada Looking for answers please regarding 3.8 in Wrangler

well lets start this by asking a very important question...

what is the OFFICIAL jeep engine 3.8 jeep wrangler Oil consumption for 1000 Kilometer? and no guessing please, i mean the real answer from Chrysler..,and is it in writing from JEEP? does any one here really have that knowledge or is it made up as you go for each client? it seems that the knowledge in here is , lets see now how did the dealer put it, oh yes, " amateur" "incorrect", and full of big mouths that know nothing... my dealer

Next question please....

What is the OIL grade that is recommended for the 3.8, I don't mean what YOU recommend, i mean what does Chrysler recommend and is it anywhere in writing?
what would happen if , lets say i use 10w 30, or 10w 40 or hell even 5w30 instead of 5w 20. can they prove that it was used?

next;
If I go onto OIL watch who watches the oil and who measures it when it goes in?:

so lets start with these and the final question... can I trust A dealer to look out for what is best for me?, or am I dealing with a company that is looking out for what is best for them?

ok fill me in and I will let you all know what is going on on my jeep, 3.8

I can't give you definite answers on the oil questions, but I can almost guarantee you will not find a dealer out there who is looking out for your best interests . . . some may not totally screw you into buying something you don't want or need, but I've bought 3 new vehicles before (1 mustang gt, 1 2012 jeep :) which is why i'm here lol, and a sea doo speed boat) and every one of the was looking for my money . . . you as the buyer need to push for what you want and threaten to go elsewhere if they aren't 100% honest and straight forward with you. I went to 4 Jeep dealers before deciding on one. I had 3 of them trying to sell me the exact same Jeep (EXACT) and all of them telling me different "facts!" It was a gong show, but good thing I did my research and asked on forums like this one, because it helped me determine which dealer was at least being up front with me. I ended up with a sweet new bbq and half doors thrown into my deal :) If you rush it you'll likely get screwed because again, they aren't lookin' out for ya.

1Liter per 1000klm

5W20 specified in the manual, that being said my dealer put 5W30 in mine when I asked for synthetic. No they can't prove what grade unless they can get a sample of it.

The Dealer tech assigned to your case will monitor oil consumption.

The dealer

The dealer will help you out, they get paid well to do warranty work, but they have to prove to Chrysler that the work is justified or they won't get paid. Personally if you can't trust your dealer, look for another one.

So you prob have some miles on, let me guess what your problems are:

- when running 5w20 dino oil you burn a couple liters of oil between oil changes.
- start up clack after it sits awhile especially when its cold out.

Solution - 5W30 Amsoil and a NAPA Platinum 41516 filter (larger capacity)

You gotta be kidding me - 1L per 1000kms?
At a recommended oil change of 5000km, why bother, you've already completely change the oil by adding a litre every 1000kms.

Yup you got it. It is ridiculous, but 5w20 is so thin it will almost evaporate on its own. Lol.
Switching to 5W30 usually solves this problem.

5-30 takes us out of the warranty........ now is that a smart idea???

as for mileage, i took it to the dealer to start looking at this problem at 58K, thats not a lot....

and yes why should i change oil... when i dont need to... i only have to add new oil every week and maybe once every 3 moths change the filter, no need to drain the engine there wont be any oil in there as it is going :)

Insist that they do a oil consumption test. Running quality 5W30 doesn't take you out of warranty but by all means run 5W20 if you want. My dealer put 5W30 synthetic in mine from the first oil change.. It is more important that the oil is changed regularly..
That same motor in 07 required an oil change by warranty every 6000klm in 08 it went to 10,000klm.

I don't no to much about these jk's and there new engines, but taking that much oil theres got to be something wrong. I have a 03 TJ in line 6 motor close to 6 litres of oil w/new filter and don't add nothing until I change my oil when it due some 10,000 km later. I use 10x30 reg motor oil. (My 2 cents worth)

any vehicle consuming this much oil has issues, its only a matter of someone taking the responsibility of the issue that needs to happen.

this is my 5th new vehicle. I have never ever had oil consumption on any vehicle including a start 6 mustang from 1980, to a piece of crap 89 Corsica 4 cylinder i ran up to 450.000 kilometers, even that never used up oil like this Jeep Wrangler uses. I have had 2 other 4x4s never used oil like this, always changed oil at 5 to 6k and always had full oil reserves.

yes i am on oil watch, been on now since dec 27..... and since then have gone through about 6 liters of oil... not bad eh heheheheh just think i will NEVER ever have to do a oil change as long as this goes on like this hehehe.
