West Intro and question

Hi folks. I'm a new member here. Looks like a great place to learn about my new Jeep!!
I have a new 2010 Unlimited in Black.I bought it in May, and it has 3000 km. on it. I was wondering when to get my first oil change. Should I wait till 5000km? Are there any other fluids that need early changing? I haven't taken it hard 4 by'ing yet ,just a few trips and going to work short runs

Thanks

Hello fellow Newbie. Although the Wrangler's Maintenance Service Schedules booklet says 10k or 6 months, after some surfing on the web I've decided to go with 4k/4months, 6k/6months for the warranty period. After that I'll follow 10k/6months. Costs a couple of extra bucks but I hope its worth the investment in the long haul. Someone else might be able to provide more insight. CHEERS!

I would agree 110% with Leeside, 4K or 4months feels much better. You could relax this if your driving habits are more highway then city. City driving with short trips IMO is 'extream use' and will justify more frequent lube oil filters. Cheap insurance to keep the new JKU until is a classic like a CJ :)

The maintenace booklet also IDs the other fluids, front and rear diff, T-case, auto trans...good gide line, they do put the disclaimer in there about use and when it should be done.

Oh, and don't forget the 5 tire rotation I usualy do this every other oil change...call it 10K

Enjoy and keep waving!

Thanks fellas. I just got it done at the dealer. It's free ( part of service contract) for the first 100,000 km.They recommended every 5000 km to me. I may go to 4000 because I drive a lot of city ,unfortunately.
Tranny at 50,000, and transfer case if it needs it.

Having wheeled almost every jeep since the cj2a, the biggest problem with the JK telling you what to do, is us not listening. Takes awhile to come around to it, didn't like all the electronic stuff at first either. After a year of driving and offroading, the jk is the best jeep on and offroad.TCS works (really nice in the winter), bld works, skid control system saved my butt couple of times, brake assist and low range hill assist work awesome, fits 33's stock, and has a sensor in the air breather so if u take in water it shuts off before it fills the engine, dry out air intake... turn key it starts. Most of the electronic stuff on the jk really helps. U will luv your new jk!!!

Hey Maverik, thanks for your words of wisdom in your contrast to the older Jeeps. Other then my 08', the only other Jeep I had the pleasure of driving many moons ago was a late 70's CJ with the Levis package.

I need to check if the 08 has the air intake H2O sensore.Good tip.
