If I can be so BOLD
I pass lots, and lots and lots of Jeeps...all day, every day.....NO WAVE...notoriously these Jeeps are driven by females, I am one....I will go out of my way to make sure I WAVE....and the guys with the "lifts and big tires" they dont WAVE....cause I dont have the lifts and tires, makes them better than I?????
Not a good feeling....but I natter away, my husband has a 2007 C6 Corvette, with the noisy headers and Corsa exhaust...one of my co-wokers just bought a 2011 Mustang...5.0short shift....so in no way am I afraid of cars....they are "afraid of Jeeps" I would not trade either of them for my Jeep....dunno people its just a feeling when I get in that truck, no matter where/when/how/why....its a Jeep....and I respect that, and I respect all the funny looks..."a MOM driving a Jeep, Jeep...."guess thats why the guys have their Corvettes, Mustangs, Cadillacs??? Its just a feeling, like Im in my element????????????? I was not born to drive a Corvette, we have had this car for two years I have not driven it??? Its a damn car thats why and I dont like it, my husband choses my Jeep all the time (doesnt wanna mile out the other car) but can he shift............NOPE....I'll need a new tranny/clutch if I let him drive it any more...........how do you miss 3rd gear???? Its a truck....3rd gear is always where it should be.....and I had an old Nova,,,3 in the tree???? Happy Trails P.S. Looking for a Canadian site to buy die cast???? |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
The JEEP wave has been a problem here to...quebec.....I cannot get those jk guys/gals to wave so I don't bother anymore. I wave at something lifted (like mine) also as many yj's/tj's and cj's I see no matter - or I might get pulled over again by a local cop asking me if my arm is broken..lol ...hes got an old cj..
You might want to send hubby to a driving school that ott to go over well...lol |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
Don't be discouraged...keep waving! 95% of the Jeep drivers I meet wave. I get waves from JK's, T, Y & CJ's. Maybe there's something in the air in Hamilton...just kidding.
What kind of die cast are you looking for? |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
The wave used to be a must. Back in the late 70's early 80's. Used to drive days and not see another CJ. New group of people more concerned about themselves or other stuff I guess now, not to mention there are a lot of jeeps on the road today. Most are oblivious to surroundings, but keep waving, surly some will get the wave thing. g'luck
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
The wave really seems to be on the decline since there are so many people buying the like they are a Corolla.
Was thinking of getting a sticker that says "Wave or I'll burn your house down" but people might think that's a little to anti-social... |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I hear you...I try to wave to all Jeeps, most either are not looking or kind of get this surprised look like "do i know her????!"
When we went on a trip to Muskoka all through northern Ontario jeepers were great waving (about 95% waved back) Only to get back home to Manitoba to the unfriendly it seems :ohwell: I still keep waving, hoping more will start waving or get back to waving again  I guess I'm having so much fun driv'in my jeep I can't help but smile and wave! :smilie_daumenpos: |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
Thanks everyone....you made my day !!!!
Looking for a diecast Jeep of course....doesnt really matter what year. I had ordered one from a US site but when I found out the shipping was $30.00, for a $20.00 purchase I cancelled it. Ive checked everywhere Walmart, Zellers even our one hobby shop here in Hamilton, they only had army ones.....so if anyone knows a good Canadian supplier send it along please. Thanks...and keep on Wavin !!!! |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
As for driving school for my hubby Mr. White....he's already been to the racing school in Shannonville....so not sure it would help. I think as the Vette has that little short shifter, that you can look at and it seems to shift....as you well know a truck requires a real shift !!!! LOL

Up to all of us that GET the WAVE and KNOW that WAVE to teach those who may not get it yet. Jeep wave back to ya! |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I wave at any jeep wrangler that I see. It's just a habit now.
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
Yeah it's become a habit for me too....to the point where I am driving the wife's SAAB and I still wave!!!!
We have a good mixture of wavers and non-wavers here in the city. I think it's the lack of education when picking up the Jeep. I didn't know about it until the dealer told me "oh I forgot to tell you one thing about the Jeep, you have to wave to other Jeeps....Jeeps as in Wranglers. You don't have to wave to GC, Patriot, and Compass, Just the Wranglers". I gave him the WTF are you talking about look. But soon enough, I saw the first wave. Pretty cool if you ask me. But yeah, it's about educating those that never owned a Jeep. |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
^^thread was started on September 11, 2011.
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I try to wave at all Wranglers. They don't all wave back though. It's a "family", like motorcyclists.
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I wave at every Wrangler.... but probably get a 30% response rate.... like they say....wave at the Jeep....not the driver....then responses are irrelevant.....:smilie_daumenpos:
It seems to me that many folks are almost embarrassed to wave, or feel uncomfortable interacting with others.... probably a sign of the times....in big urban areas there is almost no response.... |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I'd say I get the wave back 80% of the time. More often than not anyway
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I try to wave to everyone. I get a lot back, unless its from a soccer mom type which I have found are usually driving a sahara... they never wave back. If I don't its cause im falling asleep or super distraced. Usually I am searching the roads for other Jeeps :)
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
My wave to wave back ratio is about 4:5. It's not so much Saharas (I drive one) in my experience. I believe its a comfort/knowledge quotient. Many times the non-wavers are soccer moms who are still revelling in their own post 20's popularity syndrome. But then there are the newbies with the pumped up kicks attitude too. Basically I wave and don't have any expectations. If I get a wave back I smile and imagine I've gained some fuel milage.
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
An old guy back in the 70's taught me the wave as a young guy...... Just bought my first Jeep the other day....... Waving like crazy.......
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
Don't give up. WAVE
Just modified my Sahara last week and I will WAVE to any WRANGLER I pass. It's what YOU do that's important, not the others. YOU know the WAVE is RIGHT and all other none wavers are wrong. Take care and WAVE. It feels right. |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
Wow great responses......struck a nerve, and YES I WAVE AT ALL JEEP WRANGLERS....they are the ones feeling bad not I....
Thanks guys/gals. |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
Try "The collectors guild". http://www.diecastbymail.ca/index.html
Located in Kingston. I always wave... Even though my wife thinks it's silly! |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
Thanks checked out the website they have exactly what I want...a little more expensive than US however shipping is $6.95 per item, UPS, compared to $30.00++ from the states, so still cheaper and I get to Shop Canadian...
Much appreciated. |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I'm in your region too (Paris/Brantford), drive a Wrangler X. Some days the waving is good, other days no one waves. I wave all the time! Keep it going, they'll get the hint.
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I find the Jeep wave is very "hit or miss" I will wave to all Wranglers of all years and I don't always receive one back.
My wife waves when she's in the Jeep with me too (we give out the double wave!) or when she's driving the Jeep she waves too. We are trying to keep it alive. |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I try my best to always send a wave to the jeep friends, some wave back and some don't, but I also smile at people when i walk past them, snd some smile back and some don't. Everyone needs to be happier, especially with the jeeps
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I got my first CJ in the late 80's now I drive a 2012 Wrangler. Keep waven, there are alot of people out there new to the Jeep thing who don't know what it's all about. It's a Jeep thing and it's up to us to teach them.
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
NO ONE waves in BC
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
Having own a YJ, TJ and now a JK (2011 Sahara), I've always "done the wave", but the popularity of the 4dr JK seems to have brought Jeep an entirely new demographic of buyers. People who have never had a sense of being "individuals". When I pass a CJ, YJ, or TJ anymore, they seem to be caught off guard that somebody in a JK would wave at them. Corvette owners, and Harley Davidson riders have waved at each other, like Jeepers, for years, because ownership of these vehicles has (maybe "use to" is more appropriate) required a personal sacrifice to obtain and maintain them.
So those of us who remember what the wave represents will just have to keep the tradition alive, even if most of people we wave at have no clue what we're doin'. |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
Always wave, i find most wave back. Nobody waves in BC because there eyes are to squinty and red to see u, :hah::redface:they are also proably paranoid and in way to big a rush to get munchies to notice u waving lol.:retard::smokin:

Re: If I can be so BOLD
What is the wearing sunglasses to no sunglasses wave ratio?
I think there mab be a Lone ranger principle at work. LOL :) |
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I've noticed lately that I've been getting the nod, and not the wave. Anyone else?
|
Re: If I can be so BOLD
I pulled up next to an unlimited today during rush hour. I waved and got the nod in return. Better than the dear in the headlight look I guess.

Re: If I can be so BOLD
I used to own Pontiac Fieros...the last of which was a cherry 1988 GT...and there was a 'Fiero wave' of sorts...I remember it being sort of a nod combined with a slightly uplifted left arm...at the window...
Looking forward to the Jeep Wave...or whatever it is!!! |

Re: If I can be so BOLD
I've owned a Cj and two Yjs and have always waved. And yes I am a proud British Columbian. I found because the CJ was unique it got the most return waves but I still get over 50% with the Yj. Keep waving and people seem to catch on.
