Default Grill Mod

added some mesh to the back of my grill the other night. Saw this mod on JK forums. All and all it was very easy and cheap. The longest process was waiting for the glue to dry the clips on. I think it turned out good. I used plastic fence so I don't have to worry about rust and if it breaks, I have lots left over that I could easily replace it.

Looks great, like OEM even, and functional too.

Adding this to the list of things to do.

Were do you get the mesh?

I got everything I needed from Home Depot. the fenceing was 29.00 but its a big roll, enough to do several jeeps. The clips are like $1.95 for 8 so I bought 5 packs and then you use zip ties and I bought some gorella glue. That is like $8 bucks but I bought a larger one for a little more so I could have it around. I can't figure out why Jeep wouldn't have somthing there from the factory. Those grill openings are huge.

The fencing def looks good but may not be strong enough to keep rock (or birds out). We used distressed metal painted black on my son's Jeep and it has taken some major hits and has some dandy dents. I have billet aluminum on mine and will be installing the distressed steel next week on my daughters.

its surpriseingly strong. I tried breaking it and bending it over and over several times and it didn't break. I will keep an eye on it and if it fails its an easy fix to change to another material.

Imo this is the best and first thing anybody should do for their jeep. It surprises me to see how many actually don't do it. Mine's also of flat distressed aluminum painted black, but due to the abundance of river moth in my area come summer, I have a nylon window screen zipped on from behind.

I found the aluminum at a local machine shop, but it can also be had from a supplier of welding and fabricating - like a place that sells bulk steel etc. The reason I opted for the machine shop is because so little of the stuff is needed, but if I bought it from a metals supplier I'd have to buy a full sheet, and that's too much, as it is fairly pricey. I got just enough for the job, as it was a "left over"and priced as such.
