Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
2 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
This is my first winter with these tires since I did lift and upgrade in April last year. I have to say that these tires are just beauty to ride on. rain, mud , ice, snow...They perform very well and ride is so smooth and gives you total control on the road. recent Ice storm and snow is nothing for these tires, they keep pulling and didn't had any traction control assist go off. I really love them. Attachment 2907 |
Re: Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
I love mine too, they perform extremely well and road noise is only slightly audible when I have the top down and doors off. Like most aggressive tires though, if find they don't like asphalt with a tiny bit of rain on.

Re: Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
Good to know as come Dec 2014 in Quebec the LT tire on light trucks won't be legal in the 3 months of winter (15th Dec to 15th Mar) Assuming these tires have the mountain/snow flake embedded into the side wall?

Re: Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
I think I might give these a go when my Mickey's need a changing.

Re: Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
Yes, these have the mountain/snowflake rating emblem on them and they are studdable (for those provinces/states that allow). It is quite rare that I switch into 4wd in snowstorms here with these tires, they make their way through that well.

What size did you go with, width wise? Got any pics, specifically a side shot of how much they stick out past the fenders.
Thanks I love these tires, and in the rain they perform well too. I seriously never had problem with them. They are also somewhat quiet at Hwy speeds. |
Re: Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
I am looking at upgrading from stock wheels. I am looking at a 2" lift and Duratrac 33" tires. my question is on tire width. Looking at 11.5". What is the functional difference between 11.5 and 12.5 or even the narrower one.
Cheers, P.S. |
Re: Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
you will find that a wider tire will tend to ride on top of mud or snow instead of cutting thru to firmer ground...this can cause loss of traction. some guys like a wider tire for the meaty look, but unless you plan on running beaches for the most part, you may want to stick to either the 11.5 or drop to the 10.5. still a good look to the tire, but retains better ability to cut thru to solid ground, and thats where the traction is...
even tire pressure can make a difference, i have some minor death wobble issues with my WJ and have lowered my tire pressure to 32 psi to see if it makes a difference. it doesn't help the death wobble issues, however i do notice that the softer tires don't grab quite like they did at 40psi... this is just my opinion, and everybody has one. hope you find this helpful... |
Re: Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
Generally lower pressure will give you better traction in snow, mud and rocks. The wider tires will give you a bigger contact patch for better flotation which is preferred in deep snow and mud where digging to the bottom will hang you up on the belly..
For best ride, traction, and even tire wear, these tires should be run at 27-30psi on a 4,500lb vehicle. |

Update
Just ordered the 33" Duratracs with 17" Rugged Ridge rims. Got the 2" lift. Should be done in March at some point. Cant wait. Already looking at LED lights! THanks for the info. As far as a lift goes, what would you suggest. something like an AEV spacer suspension system or a more comprehensive 2.5" lift with shocks? outside of getting to some very difficult to get to fishing spots, also looking to do some moderate off-roading.(ie level 4-5 at trailfest) Cheers, P.S. |
Re: Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
If you are gonna stay with factory bumpers a TeraFlex Budget Boost (spacer lift) will be fine.. If you intend on adding steel bumpers and winch go with a spring lift..

for those who wonder how 33's Duratracs look on 2" lift.

Sweet! Now I know what to expect. Can't wait.

Cheers, P.S. If I had to do it all over again, I would do 33 X 12.5" width, my preference is the wider look. If you are set on GY DT in a 12.5" width...pretty sure that puts you at their 34 X 12.5 X 17.....I want to say 315 70 17 going on memory...I might get corrected on that one. My wheels do have a 4.75" backspace on them, and the 11.5" width gives a good 'sticky out' look....enough to cover your rear fender flares with slush as I've now learned. Comes down to preference and what YOU use the Jeep for. You're on the right track with a 2" lift...perfect for the tire size you are looking at, well proportion, and doesn't give that wheel well 'stuffed' look. |
Re: Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
Thanks for the input. Any pics of the jeep? The 12.5" is definitely an awesome look. Not sure about spacers. Is that something that you can change? I am going with the 11.5s. I think it will suit my needs.

Re: Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
I was looking at pricing out new wheels and Dura Tracs for my jeep after my 2.5 inch lift. It's quite pricey!
Looking at Pro Comp Series 1069 wheels and LT315/70R17 Duratracs. I eyeballed close to $3000 after mounting and taxes. That sound about right? I know the wheels are a huge part of it, and replacing the rubber will be cheaper. I am just starting to realize the hole I'm looking at digging myself into, looks like I'm gonna need to try and get a better job hah. Rock sliders go on this month, and Consession Lake this summer, tires and lift will have to wait for now. |
Re: Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires
Umm.. Loop found! I can downsize to a 15 inch rim and still have the same size tire 35x12.50R15, or 318/80R15 (i think) but it's alot cheaper! I was looking at the Kevlar Tires. But the rims are hard to find for it, looking at 15x9 rims.
