FINALLY! my new 2012 JK Sahara ARRIVED!!!
Well, hallelujah...! My black 2012 Sahara 2-door / 5 speed auto / black 'shiny' hardtop / dark saddle interior JEEP...is in my driveway! (as of last Wednesday)
Already, I've done three major things to it:
1. got it 'RustChecked' (do it with every new vehicle!)
2. took off the factory GIANT LOG rear muffler (which must weigh 30 lbs!)
3. installed a lighter, free-flow 'welded-on' SS MagnaFlow muffler and SS oval tip...
and several MINOR things:
4. changed out the regular bulbs in the backup lamps for high-power LEDs
5. rear licence plate is covered with clear cover and I've put an LED in the lamp
I'm trying to figure out how to install LEDs in the brakes and turns...but the old-style electromagnetic 'flasher' hates the idea...(as usual)...Anybody know if there's a solid state retrofit, as in the new Chrysler Vans (that have LED tails and turns)?
Comments...Well, it SURE sounds better (looks cool too, with the angled tip ending just before the edge of the bumper...The factory setup includes a 'mid-muffler', which, for now, I left in place...I listened to the sound after the factory muffler was removed...with just the open pipe at the flange where it is attached...Not bad, but a little rough sounding...But with the MagnaFlow on, it's a lot smoother...a little louder at idle (impossible to hear from INSIDE)...but when you press the 'hot pedal'...wow! It GROWLS...Sounds a lot like (pardon me saying) the Ford Mustang V6...very nice...love it! One nice thing is this: It DOESN'T sound like a Japanese or German V6, that's for sure. This is quite the engine.
I drove CAREFULLY for the first 200 km...then, last night...had my first BIG SMILE...
I easily 'disposed' of an unwary 'slammed' Civic (2008, or so)...I think the guy was impressed with my 'doing him in', since at the next light, he gave me a rather amazed look, and the thumb's up!
This is NOT the 2008-2011 engine...!
It's odd, because it feels a little 'sleepy' unless you press the loud pedal with authority...THEN...well, it really steps out...and above 4000 RPM...it shines...
The 'manual shift' thing on the 5-speed auto works very well...and holds the gears you select...in fact, you have to be careful to SHIFT up, watch the tach!!! The PentaStar likes to rev...but, I'm not interested in blowing up my new Jeep, just yet...
cheers,
I'll eventually post some pictures...

Fuel mileage?...hmmm...well, if I go into the litres/100km information screen, I find (driving conservatively 'egg on the accellerator')...I'm getting around 12litre/100km...in the city...not bad at all...No extensive highway driving yet...
LEDS?...well, despite ordering (from SuperBrite LEDS before I even GOT the JEEP!!!)...front and rear turn/brake high-power, dome light, marker light LEDs, I have not installed them...I found out that the whole flasher function is included in the computer...and changing the resistive load would probably screw up the whole 'bulb out' indicator thing...I'd have to add the exact resistor to the socket before putting the LEDs...This will require a LOT more research...
SO, for now, I have replaced the licence plate lamp LED (cool white)...and the back up lights (with high power LED arrays)...they look really cool and BRIGHT...
I plan to wire in footwell LEDs (front and back seats)...(to the auxiliary 12 volt receptacle on the dash, since it goes ON with the ignition)...really DARK down there!!
Also, a side-mount rear compartment light could be wired into the rear switched 12 volt outlet, near the sub woofer...it's also pretty dark back THERE!!!
Odd that jeep could have wired a lamp back there (and in the footwells)...at minimal expense...but didn't.
