Question In Dash Video and the Law

Just wondering about the legalities of installing an Ipad or Android tablet in my 07 JKU. I have seen on some other forums where guys have built them right into the dash in place of the stock radio. The MyGig has video capabilities, but I understand that is disabled when the vehicle is in motion. By installing a tablet that is capable of playing video, would I be opening myself up to a ticket, impound or my insurance company getting their panties in knot?

I think it needs to be inoperable when in Gear. Whats the charge for being caught? Dont know. I wouldn't get involved.

Section 78 of the Highway Traffic Act covers this (Google it): 78. (1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway if the display screen of a television, computer or other device in the motor vehicle is visible to the driver.

It looks like all fines in this section are $110.

Thanks for the info.
I read that to mean that it's ok if the device is dedicated to navigation or some type of onboard systems monitors. If it is capable of showing video it's not ok.

I think I'll just stick to my little Garmin Nuvi.

Why would you want to watch video while driving anyway?
