New to this site so excuse me if this topic has already been addressed.
I recently ordered a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and got a Vehicle Order Number from the dealership. I phoned the Canada Chrysler number to inquire about the build status of the Jeep, but the lady on the other line said that they can't do that and I had to go through the dealership to find out about the status.

Can someone confirm if this is true? Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance!

Hi from Toronto...

I have a 2012 JK Sahara on the way...ordered in October (first week)...Just got my VIN#

The VOTS thing doesn't seem to work for me...So I tried sending Chrysler/Jeep Canada my VIN # in an e-mail (from their CONTACT form) asking for a build sheet...This morning November 15th...

No reply yet...

I don't think that they really want to encourage purchasers from 'tracking' their new vehicles...I mean, ONLY Jeepers would do that, wouldn't they?...And the plant in Toledo is running a full tilt...so, hmmm...

On the US Jeep site there is a form where you enter your name and the last 8 digits of the VIN for vehicle construction status...but I couldn't get it to work...

grrrr...

Don't you see the 'fun' in tracking a new vehicle?...In the VERY old days...horse and cart, I'm talkin' about (no, I'm not THAT old)...I would imagine the fun of going to watch one's new cart being built...

Now, THAT would be a blast...

These days...well, we can't GO to the Toledo plant and watch our new Jeep being built...but the next best thing (with these LONG lead times on ordered vehicles)...is to do the 'factory tracking' thing...

For example...I called Jeep customer service a few days ago...followed the prompts...got a very courteous guy on the other end that said, in effect: <Sure, I'll check on your new Jeep for you...just give me the VIN...>...which I did...

A minute later...he comes back on the line...and says...<Your Jeep is currently on the line, and it is at the 'engine installation point'...all systems go!>...or something close to that...

I thought that was great...I mean, would ANYONE even think of doing that with a new Cadillac or whatever? (and would any other CAR COMPANY division even respond?)...nah...but, with a Jeep?...hey, it's all part of the 'I have a Jeep and they, AND Jeep's production, aftermarket parts and Jeep-togetherness - is special'

So, hey...I'm not a 'giddy school girl' (that's a tad sexist, isn't it?)...I'm a guy who's owned all manner of trucks, a Corvette, a Maverick 302 with fully 'tubbed' chassis...I'm not exactly your...ummm...'giddy school girl'...

Gimme some slack, bro!

Did you not go into the salesman's office and tell him what you wanted in it?
I'm willing to bet they put into the jeep, exactly what you ordered, lol.

The video you posted in the other thread which you called too hardcore,
in reality is a road, soccer moms in their stock vans can make it up that.

If you are in the Toronto area come out to a BAJA meeting,
its a jeep club that meets every tuesday in the Shoppers World parking lot
in Brampton, 7 - 9 PM.

PS-Back to the atlas for you, Tobermory splits Georgian Bay from Lake Huron, Lake Superior is a little farther north.

From what I'm told tracking really doesn't happen till its in production. A VON# will tell you that its ordered and tell you once a VIN is assigned. Once you have the VIN you should be able to track it on line.. I was told that it takes at least 6 weeks to get the VIN. Total order to delivery is estimated at 12 weeks..

yes...I have the VIN...even the dealer doesn't know what the 'tracking' thing is about...though.

AND...'Billy'...yes...I shoulda looked at my atlas FIRST...before I mentioned Tobermory!!...But, as far as 'getting exactly what the salesman was told'...enhhh...I've ordered cars before...and at least half the time, there's SOMETHING wrong...not ordered...whatever...

I figured that, with a Jeep...I could pretty-much ADD stuff that was missing...however, I'd like to get the thing JUST as I want it from square one...(not THAT Square One!)...

Call me obsessive.
