Default What's a warranty?

Ok here we go,

I was the owner of a 2002 wj OVERLAND and loved every thing about it. For a while I was considering a newer truck but couldn't really afford the WK OVERLAND. Finally I saved up everything I had and bought an 07 OVERLAND 65000kms from Chrysler dodge jeep dessources totalling just a little over 30k after taxes extended warranty and "administration fees". 2-3 days later I noticed a few issues like every time it rained the driver side floor was soaked, the front stabilizer bushings were shot, and here's a wopper, the transmission would not go into lock up and bounced considerably more than the mds system. I went and told them about these things and they opened a work order and gave me a rental and sent me on my way. 3 days later they called and told me the trucks ready. When I got it back they said the drain was faulty on the sunroof and they fixed it, they said the bushings are fine and transmission is normal. I left and took their word for it and didn't go on a highway drive that night. Next day on route to work guess what? No lockup. I finished my shift and went to my brother in laws who has a 2006 wk limited 5.7 with the 545rfe Tranny same as my current and previous truck. Needless to say lock up is achieved with ease in both tiptronic and automatic and no rpm bounce like mine. I returned to the dealer and they took the truck for a couple days and returned it to me after they flashed the pcm and changed the bushings that I got them to hear this time. The next day on the highway once again no lockup, however the rpm bounce was a better but not fixed. Went back to the dealer told them still no lockup. The mechanic who worked on the truck came for a road test during rush hour. Needless to say its impossible to get lockup under 100km/h so I Drove a lilbit quickly on the service road and sure enough no lockup. Dyno at service told me a new pcm will do the trick but he had to order it and its back order. 1 week goes by, I brought the truck back to the dealer, waited 3 hours. Pcm was replaced truck was reflashed and I got sent on my way again. Next day on the way to a clients home I took the highway Omg no frickin lockup. A new issue arose, the truck seems super slow and has significantly less torque. Also I came to notice I could no longer pass cars on the highway without the transmission downshifting a couple of gears. Again went to the dealer were I sugested that Dyno the mechanic and I go for a road test, Dyno told me forget it and that the mechanic said I drive like a maniac and he would not to for a road test. I asked for the service manager benoit marchand and coincidentally he's not around so I left. I returned a few days later on a Wednesday still no service manager (benoit) and this time no Dyno the service advisor I had been dealing with. I talked to another adviser Elan or Elie, he told me that he will make me an appointment for that Friday at 11 am. I showed up that Friday and still no benoit this time Dyno's there and no Elan. I told Dyno I'm here for my appointment and he said impossible there's no time. At this point I can't believe what I'm hearing, I still can't see benoit the service manager because he's on vacation. I found the sales man whom sold me the truck and he told me to return on Wednesday of this week. When I got there I spoke with dyno and asked him when will i get a new torque converter or transmission. He went to the office of benoit and shut the door. After 5 minutes the door opened, I sat down and begun to get lectured about how warranty works and that there nothing wrong with my truck. According to him the mechanic that came for a ride its all normal. When i told him the salesman who sold me the truck noticed the lock up problem, benoit said what does he know he's a salesman. He had rebuttals for everything I said, so I invited him to drive the truck on a road test. Off we go on to the higway, 100km/h 2000 rpm, 110km/h 2150rpm, 120km/h 2350 rpm, after at least 10 seconds for lockup120km/h@2000-2050(without and with mds). Benoit says its normal to take 10seconds. My next test, at 120 downshift into 5th gear, 2300rpm, now return to D ((automatic)should return to 2000-2050rpm right?) Well mine doesn't, it stays at 2350rpm in D (automatic)@120km/h! Again, Benoit says its normal. So I asked him how to get it back down to 2000-2050 rpm and do you want to know what he said? @120km/h "YOU MUST SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL". What the HE11 is that? I asked him to pass a car without downshifting he couldnt do it. So then I asked Benoit if a 2010 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE with 000001km on the odometer would act the same and he started going on about how if he sends the transmission to Chrysler Canada they won't find anything wrong.

Later on that day I called the dealer and asked for the dealership manager. I got transfered. I didn't want to waist time so I summed up my problem in about 30 seconds and told him to get the dealers side of the story and call me back. Less than 2 hours later I got a call from what I remember correctly the dealership owner and he told me he got the whole story and pretty much said the same until i asked him if 2010 brand new grand Cherokee would do the same he said NO. The thing is if its not 100% broken it can't be fixed. I asked to try a 2010 hemi (still has the 545rfe) with him he said not a problem, and then mine. He says there will be nothing he could do still. I started asking what's a warranty for if I can't use it, he then said to come back in a month or 2. He would see what could be done.

That was the end

I think they might call me to tell me it ready tomorrow cause I saw it outside today. I spent all my money on this jug of lemonade with a useless extended warranty and have to spend all summer with this problem and who knows maybe forever. Is there anything that could be done? I read all over 545rfe lockup problems not much for solutions. I'm sure I'm forgetting some details and have a lot of typing errors but please help me.

Thanks
Joe

When I got my 04 I also got the extended warranty. When the trans (42RE) went 30,000km later the dealership that I bought it from started giving me the same kind of runaround. I pulled out the cell and phoned Chrysler Canada while sitting in the service managers office. The problem was taken care of that day and haven't had a problem since.

Really in the service department? I'll try that on my next visit. Did your Tranny completly die? Or did it start acting up with issues and problems? I had a wj with a 4.7 545rfe, had trouble once, changed The radiator and was good to go it was a coolant flow problem.

Thanks for your reply I'm really down since this all started maybe I should ask for a refund it hasn't even been 2 months since I bought this lemonade its not fair.

The dealership was like my best friend until they got my money.

The OD unit went first and when I took it in they had replaced the trans sensors which of course didn't fix anything, actually somehow they managed to screw the trans in the meantime. I could drive it with the OD off when I took it to them, when I got it back and it was "fixed" it wouldn't even move. They told me it would be 6500.00 and 14 hours of labour to fix. That's when I made the call, the service manager started freaking out while I was telling them what he had said. End of story was new trans and OD unit and I didn't pay a penny.

Well i guess theres a little difference here at one point your truck was immobilized( "fixed" it wouldn't even move). Mine, still runs. It seems as though I paid 30K for someone elses problems. Im still waiting for their call to give me back my so called fixed JEEP. i relly miss my wj man that thing was a frikin tank this wk feels like a computereised piece of junk. Oh yeah one last thing what happened to mechanics ther re nothing but geek squad tech, ther re motto seems to be no computer code no problems lazy jerks.

Update,

Today I called the dealership to ask when I'm getting back the truck and Dyno told me my transmission all over the mechanics bench in pieces, getting a rebuild. I'm soooooooooooooooo happy to hear this news. I really hope they are doing a complete rebuild and not some half assed job. I couldn't get a straight answer out of him as to whats being changed he said wait for the Bill. I told him warranty and he said wait till the work orders complete.

I'm not sure weather to be happy or nervous. I will post the update.

Your Jeep is still covered by the original drivetrain warranty is it not? There shouldn't be any kind of bill at the end. I'd call Chrysler and at least let them know what's happened so far, that way if there is a problem they will have it on file. They will give you a file number when you call.

I see you list your location as Montreal, you wouldn't like to give us an approximate location of the dealer you're having this problem with so we can avoid them?
