hey folks I just bought an 04 GC Limited and I noticed the oil pan was a little crusty, the rest of the vehicle is in very very good condition, and after changing the oil I noticed a small oil spot on the garage floor the next day and just chalked it up to the oil change thinking there might have been a few drops left over from the filter change, however that is not the case....the pan is leaking near the bottom, damn it!

I have ordered a new pan and gasket but my question is can the pan be replaced without jacking the motor up? There appears to be room if I put the stands under the chassis and not the suspension. Any experiences out there with this?

Hi,You should have no problem.But sometime it just makes things easier,don't worry it isn't hard at all to remove the engine mount bolts,just be sure to spray em with WD40 first and let it works it's way into the threads.

Get some PB Blaster from Canadian Tire, it will be your best friend as long as you own your Jeep.

 

If you have a 4.7L, you'll have to disconnect the y-pipe and remove the starter. Not terribly difficult unless the bolts are seized/rusted in place. The y-pipe might be a bit of a pita. I had the same thing happen. IIRC, Chrysler used laminated steel to make these pans, so as soon as you have enough rust to creap between the layers, or enough of an impact to the pan... it will begin to slowly fall apart. ....good luck.
