Default Thinking about putting a CB in your Jeep?

This is more due to recent experiences on a backcountry trip I went on.
As prepared as we all get to venture far into the bush with our trusty jeeps, besides telling someone where your going and when you'll be back have you ever thought of how your going to get out if things go wrong?
Due to the recent rain in the Crowsnest Pass we woke to find our campsite on the verge of being washed away and a good chance of us not being able to get out due to a couple of water crossings and hill climbs we had to do.
Luckily 2 of our friends have ham radios in their jeeps and they were able to get ahold of forestry and let them know where and how many were in our group and which route we were going to attempt to use to get out.
A CB (like mine) in this situation would have been useless due to transmission range in the mountains.
For those people that are thinking about building their jeeps to go far offroad, a few extra dollars and a few hours in a classroom you can arm yourself with another very useful tool for you and your jeep. In our case it could have been the difference of 14 people getting out safely.

Yea having the essential gear when in the back woods is a tricky thing, i've been struggling with how id like to set up mine... i kind of want a 102" antenna mounted up top, and have it fold down into a insulated holder so the short distance stuff will still get picked up... just not sure how little of a distance id pick up with it being flat... might go with switchable antenna's
one coming off the rear bumper...

but yeah you've got to think of it in a practical way, basically if you have line of sight you should have communications with it... its not going to transmit over a mountain and down the other side, or 100 miles back to the house aka skip... if it does its not guaranteed to happen all the time.

i had a good CB FAQ im trying to dig up...

It depends on how much you want to spend. A CB radio with 40 AM channels Cobra/Unique etc (normal) can run under $100 at most places like EBay or Amazon.
You might also like to look into a truck stop they usually have some nice deals and of course an antenna and coaxial wire. This will as the above
fellows mentioned if its rocky area you may have a problem transmitting a long ways, but in a group they are perfect and to me a necessarily.
DO NOT OFFROAD ALONE Always with another 1 or 2 vehicles. I hope this has helped you some
