Canada I parked her for the winter and now my brake lights stay on.

I parked my 1994 ZJ outside for the winter and I noticed my brake lights stay on. Did this ever happen to anyone? Does someone have any idea what it might be?

Thanks,

SOLVED: daytime running lights make the parking lights in the back stay on ... doh.

Daytime running lights usually only light the fronts...never seen a vehicle with Canadian specs that lights the rears as well.... are you sure you found the problem?

Well, the parking lights go on, we have the light controls set to "auto".

I was just concerned as they seemed so bright, but then parking lights are okay to have on.

Cheers,

Not sure what you mean by 'parking lights'...?

The 'auto' setting means that your headlights will come on if the ambient light sensor tells the jeep its dark outside.

Under normal operating conditions, with the headlights off, Jeep in park, and the brakes not applied, there will not be anything illuminated on the back end.

Yeah, strange, while running in park, headlights are on due to daytime running lights, controls are set to "auto" and I do have parking lights at the rear.

Cheers,

'Parking lights' is not a commonly used expression, to which lights are you referring?

ZJ tail housings have brake lights/ running lights, reverse lights and turn indicator lights.

The lights I am referring to are the bulbs at the top of the rear tail lights.

Ok, If you turn off the headlights, those lights should switch off as well. However, if you have the switch on auto, and its dark outside (or the light sensor is obscured) then its normal for them to be lit up.

I know the rear tail light assemblies of WJ models are problematic and can produce a whole variety of wierd issues. Hopefully its something simple.

It's really no problem, I don't mind having parking lights when I drive. I just thought they were brake lights and it's my bad for getting excited.

Cheers,
