electrical problems?
Hi everyone,
I've owned 2 GC's to date but not in a few years. One 4l and one 5.2 l. Just bought another for the winter and i must say it is in quite good shape. This is mainly because it is from Alberta ( what a difference from the ones here in Ontario). Anyways, just a little background info.
I've been driving it for about a month now and everything has been working fine. I mean everything, cruise , power locks even VIC. . My son and I went into the store and he went back to the jeep before me and decided to unlock it from the passenger side . That side has the lock cylinder literally hanging out of the door. For whatever reason the clip has come off that holds it in place . He said the alarm went off when he opened the door. I am assuming the lock hanging my have something to do with it or even a few broken wires at the rubber boot going into the door. I know this is common on a lot of vehicles.
Now when i get into the jeep everyday the VIC and radio is reset , the overhead domelights don't come in when the door opens and when i turn them on manually the light goes bright and dim. If i turn a second light on they go very dim and the radio and VIC shut off. If i open my door the radio goes off. I had a similiar problem with one of my other jeeps but it was only randomly. Just wondering if this problem rings any bells with
anyone. Thanks

Re: electrical problems?
It don't ring any bells but it sounds like you are losing the continuous 12v for the radio, however, I would fix the door lock first and check the wiring inside the door for damage. It's certainly a strange mixture of issues.

Re: electrical problems?
Hi again,
I looked over the jeep and found that two wires had touched each other inside the passenger door electrical boot. This caused a fuse to blow also. After fixing the wires and changing the fuse everything is back to normal. I thought i would post this in case anyone ever had a similar problem . Thanks

Re: electrical problems?
Well here in B.C, it's known that used Alberta vehicles tend to be in fairly good shape body-wise, as it's dry there and they don't go heavy on road salt in winter - other than in the towns and cities. However, distances are far, roads are mostly straight, and they drive like the dickens, which tends to show up on drive systems and engines. That's my experience anyway

Thanks for the update!
I hope that will help other Jeep owners if they run into the same issues.
Glad to hear everything worked out for you as well.
Take care,
