4.7L sounds like a diesel.............
hello,
I've got a '99 GC 4.7L and it's sounding more and more like a diesel everyday. it goes away when it warms up but when it's cold, man does it have a rattle. any ideas on what i can do to cure it.
thanks.

How long does it sound bad for when it is cold? Have you replaced the oil and filter. In all reality if it is getting worse day by day you may be needing a new motor very soon. How many km on the JEEP? Was it maintained regularly?

This was recommended to me as well by a friend. it has improved my engine. not cured yet. am in the middle of second oil change with seafoam. will try others. it takes patience and many oil changes. 4.0L did the same thing but then I used Miricle oil. cant find it now. that worked as well.

nah his motor is just gummed up. it goes away once warm. mine does the same thing. I attribute the gummed up motor to the previous owners driving habits and oil changes. she wheeled it 1.5 blocks everyday to work and in extreme cold as well. barely got warmed up. I think over summer I will get it cured. if it didnt go away once warm then yeah it needs a motor.

Marvel Mystery Oil isn't sold in Canada anymore from what I've been told, Crappy Tire was the Canadian distributor and they dropped it from their product line this past fall due to low sales. I haven't seen it since.

yeah, that is why I am using SeaFoam. hopefully it will get the job done. I have a couple of questions though. it is noisy tappets. can I replace the hydraulic valves with out taking off the intake plenum? is there other oil additives that I could try to solve the problem?
