Default 1999 Laredo Transmission Knocks

Hi,

I'm very upset @ myself..Last week I was with a friend and girlfriend when I decided to drive my cherokee which has an automatic transmission like a manual :( pure stupidity

On 2 or 3 max occasions I put the gear to neutral gave gaz and then put the gear to drive making the truck accelerate like crazy..

I have 260 000km and had changed the transmission oil + filter where the specialist confirmed all was in exellenet condition a couple of months ago. After my stupidity last week I drove about 500km with no signs of damage until yesterday where i noticed the transmission was no longer shifting smoothly on its own..today it seems worst, going from 1st to second I feel a jump, the check engine light came on and now feel a big jump going from 3rd to 2nd and this driving very smoothly.

Putting the car from reverse to neutral and then to drive causes a knock as well, same for going from drive to reverse while pressing the brake. I'm taking the truck to a transmission specialist tomorrow but am freaking out over how stupid I am and am wondering what could be the problem other then the abvious where my transmission is messed up.

Any suggestions as to what could be the problem?

I'm no expert, but you may not have ruined it... it could be something as simple as the bands being out of adjustment. I'd suggest taking it in to a small location tranny shop and getting it inspected.

If you have the 42RE I would agree that you may be able to get rid of the surge with adjusting the bands. If you can find out if they were done when you had the oil and filter changed. If not it may work.

I'm actually going to say something kinda odd.

Have a look at the tranny mount and u-joints doing what you did puts a lot of stress on these two items and could be causing the clunk as for the not shifting sorry not very knowledgeable on auto's
