Default 1998 Grand Cherokee Starting Issues

I have posted on numerous sites about this issue before and also did some research online but still don't have any answers. My issue is a starting issue. I did a fuel pressure test and I get 46 pounds at idle. I watched for leak down and it went to zero pounds in about 20 minutes. I suspected either the injectors leaking down or the check valve in the fuel pump assembly. I then pulled the fuel rail to see if it was the injectors and found 2 that were damp, not dripping or spraying just damp. I then did some searching online about cleaning the injectors, so I pulled out the closest to the front injector and cycled the pump watching the fuel go into a bucket. I was shocked about how must crude came out so I cycled until all was running clear. I then took all the injectors out and thoroughly cleaned them while actually cycling the injector, I flushed them out both ways to make sure the screens as well as the pintles were cleaned. I did this again to all the injectors. I filled the rail with pure injector cleaner and I also sprayed carb cleaner into the injector holes before replacing the injectors and fuel rail, I started the truck up and sprayed carb cleaner into the butterfly valve making sure I cleaned it really well. So now the issues. I leave it over night and when i go to start it in the morning it starts immediately with no issue whatsoever, turns over for about 1/2 second to a second before catching. I go to work, leave it for 3 hours, go to start it and it takes 3 or 4 times for it to start. I also get a fuel smell like a flooded smell, I go home to lunch it sits for about 35 minutes I go to start it and it take 2 attempts to get it to catch. My first thought was that the injectors were leaking down into the cylinders and there was raw fuel on the pistons, so when I go to start it it is indeed in a flooded state, I have basically ruled that out by watching the injectors while I had the rail out for 1/2 an hour and none of them are leaking. I also thought by sitting all night any gas that goes into the cylinder via a leaking injector would seep into the base overnight, I would think that there would be a delay here while trying to build up the pressure, but it starts first thing after sitting overnight like I explained. I'm at a total loss on this one, I am thinking about upgrading the injectors to the 703 Dodge Stratus injectors like I read in this forum, 4 hole rather than the single hole original ones. I don't want to do this until I get this issue sorted out. I know that there are some really informed people here that can help me so please help me out.

Thanks a bunch

Allan

Usually the problem is hard starting in the morning from the fuel pressure bleeding off overnight because the o-ring in the fuel pump leaks.
I'll do some reading over the weekend to see if I can help pinpoint something but I've never had this problem before.

The problem isn't in the morning, it starts right up with no issues after it sits all night, but after that initial start in the morning it seems to get flooded and is harder to start. For example, i start it at 6:30 AM and it starts first touch of the key, I run it for like 15 minutes on a drive somewhere. i shut it off and when I go to restart it at 8:30AM it takes 2 or 3 times to start and I get the strong smell of gas. It runs excellent with no idle issues or power issues. I drive to work takes about 15 minutes of driving. I then go to start it when I go to go to lunch and I encounter the same hard start issues. If I drive it and shut it off and restart it immediately it starts right up with no issues. I'm convinced it is injectors leaking down but like I stated previously, I had them out and seen no real evidence of leaking.

Thanks so much for your reply by the way.

The only thing that I've been able to find are 2 possibilities, one is the injectors as you stated or it may be the capacitors in the PCM itself.
You may be able to check their condition by removing the PCM and checking to see if there is any leakage around any of the capacitors. It is a cheap fix if that is the problem if your handy with a soldering iron.

Jeep Grand Cherokee along with American sports car, the SRT Viper– the most awarded SUV ever – but also a diesel version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee for North American markets.” And because of this, more jobs for the Chrysler Group are the excellent news, reports Automotive News. Creation of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel will begin soon, producing a 3rd shift at a Detroit assembly factory necessary. At least 1,100 employees will apparently be taking on the task. Source of article: Chrysler to add workers for 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel production . Oh well, this is how auto makers really help and give hundreds of chances to those jobless out there.
