I left my 1986 CJ7 key on and the battery went dead when i went to recharge it i had to reverse the polarity by hooking up a second battery. The idling is now laboured. You can see the Tach moving and it never did this before. Can i reset everything by UN hooking the battery or do i need to do more.

i would start by taking your battery and getting it load tested (any decent parts supplier can do this for you) sounds to me like the battery might be screwed... as for resetting your on-board computer, simply unhooking the battery won't do it. you have to drain the residual electrical charge from your system's capacitors, etc. you can do this by disconnecting the battery cables and touching them together for 10 seconds or so. after hooking everything back up, it will start writing new programs for fuel delivery, etc.

note- when you touch the cables together, you will see a small spark, this is normal. just make sure things are well ventilated for safety's sake.

i can't guarantee this will solve your problem, but it's worth a shot... but start with load testing your battery and go from there...
