Thud when slowing down..
Hi, I've done some research online couldn't really find any answers yet, but my 00' XJ makes what feels like a "thud" under the floor mostly on the driver's side.
Ive consulted a local shop nearby, but they coudn't figure it out- nor do I realize they really want to. As stated, said mechanics were hesitant to try and take it apart and spend time on it.
The problem starts after a few trips around the block. It also never happens when the shifter is in neutral. I've secured all engine and transmission brackets- tight. Brakes aren't an issue because as I've said- when in neutral - it doesn't happen. Shocks and suspension are ok- just replaced and new. All U-joints and axles seem ok- nothing loose or bent. Wheel lugs are tight. Transmission shifts fine, Select'trac transfer case works great.
Basically it clunks (thuds) in place when coming into a full stop- then feels like it comes apart immediately as you get going. I was told by a couple of mechanics that as long as it doesn't prevent me from shifting in/out of gear both in the tranny and the transfer case- I should be fine.
Sorry for the long description- I figured the more info the better- thanks for any input for those of you that may have encountered this and have a suggestion.

Re: Thud when slowing down..
Thanks for the reply- yes and no. I did check the mounts, both the tranny underneath and also the engine mounts- both sides. No problems there, at least nothing loose. I had an older 98 XJ from before it got hit, ran really well for a jeep with over 300k, in fact i think better than my newer 2000 XJ. That did not have this issue.
I'll have my transfer case looked at and see it is the culprit. If it is- are they hard to take off and install? I have a factory service manual for the 2000 XJ and I can pretty much work on everything on my jeep except take apart the engine.
