Default Starting issue/neutral start switch location?

Hello,
Got a couple of issues with the old jeep.
Sometimes, almost every time I try to start it there is no response, nothing, it seems to me it could ne the neutral start swtich, if I move the transmission lever about a bit eventually i get a resonse.
Has anyone had this problem?
Can anyone please tell me where the neutral start switch is on the 98 Cherokee automatic?
Thanks
I got the plow mounts made, I got some angle iron, 2"x6" 3/8 and attached it to the frame through the available bolt holes, with the 6" side pointing down. Then got a piece of 6" flat bar, welded it to the angle iron to make it a T piece and bolted that to the vertical part of the frame, Then got some 2" flat bar and welded it on an slight angle to the flat bar and the angle iron and bolted it to the frame through the 3/4" bolt hole further back.
It looks quite sturdy, might find out tomorrow as I think we have some snow on the way, can take a couple of photos if anyone is interested.

pictures are always a good thing. Don't know off hand where the switch is, I'll try to find out.

The switch is supposed to be on the side of the transmission. Did you try starting it in neutral?

i have the same problem from time to time with my 99 grand cherokee. might happen 3 or 4 times a month. all i do is pull it to neutral then pop it back into park, sometimes i have to do it twice, but it always starts... i suppose i should put it on the fix list... lol the part can't be that expensive...

It is actually, in the US the NSS retails for about $200. Scared of what it'd be priced at up here, $500??

This is what you want: http://www.bc4x4.com/tech/2010/jeep-...ety-switch-nss

after doing a little digging in my service manual, looks like the switch for mine is different than that in the link salad posted above... i would have to crawl underneath to say for sure, but according to my SM, this is what i've got on mine...

Make sure you're looking at the transmission switch and not the t/case switch.

it may be possible that there are more than one type of NSS used in 99... i ran into a similar problem when ordering my transmission mount. they used 2 different mounts that year (using up old stock, i guess...) perhaps this is the same situation w/NSS.

either way, the rebuild link salad posted is very thorough, if that is the part i have, it will be easy enough to clean it up, and even easier to rectify the problem if it is the part listed in my SM...

...also note that the service manual states you should check the linkage adjustments before replacing a switch that tests faulty...
