Rebuild or replace?
Seems that it is time to either rebuild or replace the power plant in my 95 XJ with 232.XXX kms on it. Not only does she have the ticks, but also bottom end knock/hammer sounding bang near the lower firewall after I left off on the gas and it idles back down.
Should I just go with a re-manufactured engine, or let someone rebuild what I have? What will be the cost differences? I am a little limited to the amount of work that I can do since I no longer have a garage to do any work indoors.

What's the cost of re-building compared to a new long block? That to me would be the main deciding factor if money is tight. The other thing to consider is that the long block would have a warranty.
rockauto.com is pretty good for stuff like that. They list the 4.0 at 1700.00CAD and the 2.5 at 1800.00CAD. Add on taxes and shipping would be about 2000.00.
