Canada oil cooler gasket leak

I have a 2017 Cherokee trailhawk that has never leaked a drop of oil until I went to Mr. Lube in Kelowna and the car is now leaking like a sieve. Mr. Lube tech's tell me it's a common problem with the oil filter housing cracking because of the poor gasket combination and that all Cherokee's leak this way and it's a common know problem that FCA won't address.

Does anyone have the same issues or is Mr. Lube lying and covering up their tech's over tightening the oil filter housing?
Thanks
Ernie

Hey Eanagy,
Jeez, seems like this forum might not get much love! Hopefully this will h

I'm a new Jeep Cherokee owner, but I have read similar about that model of housing. I can't speak to whether or not it is a
"poor gasket combination" specifically (I have heard various explanations for the leak), but can confirm it is a common issue.

Suggestion: as to see the old oil cooler. Perhaps the location of any cracks will give you some more evidence.

Of note, a Jeep dealership where I live told me that Mopar upgraded the problem oil filter housing, but it is still plastic. Dorman have an all aluminum version I'm trying to source out, but it's been a bit of a dickens. Perhaps you will be luckier than I! Here's a link:

Yeah, Dorman does make an aluminum replacement for the plastic oil cooler. Beware that there are imitation metal ones on ebay that are not the same quality. Whichever housing you choose, the OEM Mopar gaskets are superior. As for why it happened right after a visit to Mr Lube, 99.9% sure the kid over-torqued the filter cap.
