No Start, 98 XJ
Just started having this problem...hope one of you fellow XJer's (or any Jeeper with similar problem) can help me out. Jeep is unresponsive at the turn of the ignition. Besides normal dashboard lights and alarms that come on (and go out a few seconds later) every time you turn the key as well as a small click under the dash on the passenger side (I assume a relay of some sort) nothing happens. All other electrical seems to work fine. The battery (Optima RedTop) is 1.5 months old and shows 12.6V on a Fluke multimeter. I pulled the starter out and thoroughly cleaned all contacts, cables, solenoid, etc and reinstalled. Checked DC power input at solenoid with key turned to start and got 0V. It seems I am down to the ignition and the park neutral switch as possible failure items unless someone has other ideas. Can anyone tell me how to check the park/neutral switch? The Haynes Manual I have is pretty ineffective. The diagram and pin out for the Park/neutral switch in the book is nothing like what is in my jeep. Is there any way to test out the ignition switch beside replacing it? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
