Need help - looking at a used Cherokee
I have been looking htrough the threads here and can't find my answer.
I'm looking at a Jeep sitting on a used lot right now.
1999 Classic, 162,000 kms price tag $5000
Is this a reasonable resale price? AutoTrader doesn't have many Cherokees, mostly GCs
Most important question, are there common ailments? I have frequented boards of other vehicles I have owned and had a really good idea of what to look out for on those said vehicles. Can't seem to find that here.
Other than what looks like ball joints and rear diffs imploding. Is this a truism at all?
On the test drive it wouldn't track straight. The salesrep said it was ball-joints and they would be fixed for the safety cert.
Anything I need to be aware of?
Many thanks

Re: Need help - looking at a used Cherokee
Hiya,
As per Mr. White's suggestion, "Canada" isn't much of a locator. WHERE in Canada are YOU located? West coast prices vary for East coast prices so $5K May be a good price in one part of the country while a poor price in others. MY gut feeling is $5K for a '99 with 162K is high. What engine? How much salt is put on the roads where it has been driven? A little more info' please.

Re: Need help - looking at a used Cherokee
although this thread is 2 weeks old, the truck is still on the lot.
and with gas prices heading upwards, it may just sit there a little while longer.
Can't do anything but help me with the price should I go this route. I'm just trying to get an idea if I'm looking to buy a money pit.

Have the dealer change the joints then take it out again and see if she tracks straight, if not then could be a major defect like bend frame. (Don't open ur wallet until he does the change- not even money down)

you need to be looking at the Rocker panels, inside the wheel wells especially the back ones and the frame. Jeeps Tend to rot out in those areas if not maintained.
