Default A/C Cherokee Sport 2001

A/C cuts out in high ambient temps at idle i.e. in traffic. It's ok at cruise and comes back after it has been shut down for a while. Any thoughts?????

Low freon, low pressure switch, high pressure switch.... one of these three or a combination.

Thanks, Dougy. I'll have those things checked.

I thought I had read something once about Jeep having a problem with the A/C on Cherokees and it was related to high ambient temps in the engine compartment. The fix was to some how reduce the duty cycle by half so that the a/c pump ran half the time, or something to that effect. So, I got to wondering whether the problem had something to do with that, but I can't remember where I read about the problem with Jeep a/c.

Have you heard of this?

TIA.

Yes, it was a customer pays for it bulletin from Chrysler. Orifice style A/C systems had this problem, if I remember correctly. Don't quote me on this, cus without beer, my memory his terrible. Anyways, it was a rare situation, have your tech check your A/C pressures, and you should be fine. It's usually low freon, 134a does leak down in winter if the seals are drying out.

Thanks much, Dougy. Good stuff to know. I find 6 beer is optimal for memory recall and shooting pool.

Cheers!

Sounds like an overcharge, or incondensibles (ie air) in the system. If you use the defrost in the winter, it will turn on the A/C compressor, as cold air is a much drier air, which clears up your windows much quicker. That should help prevent seals/gaskets from drying out.

Sorry, I am an A/C mechanic.
