Canada 98 XJ gearing question

Hi, i'm kinda new to this so i'm posting a question about my 98 XJ wich I just added a 6 inch lift with 34" swampers and I was wondering if I would need to change my gears or not. Havent tried it out yet it's still in the shop being built but I should have it in a few days ready for the mud. Can anyone help out in the gearing department.

hey Mudlite, first 3 questions 1- what engine do you have? 2- what gears do you have? 3- auto or maual? no matter what gear/enginetranny combo you have i guarantee you will notice a big difference. with a manual tranny you can keep the engine in it's power range and thus wont be quite as bad. but as soon as you drive it i imagine you will want to change gears. by the way in your response to me in the other threar you didnt say if your lift is the monolinear type. good luck with your gearing dilema, bottome line. 34's = gearing change.

shinny side up

Thanks for replyin, And to answer your 3 Question I have the I-6 and auto trans ,with 3:55 gearing to compensate for the speedo being out of wack and the shift points being also out of wack i'm installing a superlift true speed sensor calibrator which is supossed to bring it back into sync.

3:55's are hi for 34's even with the I-6and the auto wont help. just drive it when it is all done and you will soon see if you want to change the gears. you might decide to run a locker or something anyway if your doing any real wheelin so thats a good time to change gears.
