Default 90 Jeep Cherokee - How big and best way to build her?

Hey all...

Well I bought a 2door, 1990 Jeep Cherokee, straight 6, 5 speed standard, think its a 4L?... I picked her up for $500, and she runs great. I think shes still running on her stock suspension, shes a LOW rider right now.

But the reason I am here is for advice..

I want a capable wheeling/hunting/camping rig. It must be reasonably comfortable for the highway, but able to get up quad trails. I want to take her up tough trails. I have another DD, she will be my weekend rig. I am not sure where to start with her, how big should I go?
what size of tires should I run?
best body protection?
and the girl in me wants to redo the interior, where can I find replacement seats, headliner, tinted glass, ect....

Hey congrats on the purchase! My recomendation for interior parts is one word - wreckers.

Most interior parts are completely interchangable.

SCORE!! can never go wrong with a old Cherokee for $500...

well for starters since she's sagging, id look into a bit of a lift, new leafs, and longer coils up front, some new shocks will do it plenty of good... get it so you can put some 33's under it... keeping the power for on the trail and on the highway id look at the very least 3.73 gears

going with lockers in the front and rear will really help on seriously tough trails... you might have a high pinion dana 30 under it already, with a bit of work, it can be an awesome axle... if you have a factory tow package you might have a Dana 44 in the rear which would be awesome... lots of upgrades and extra goodies for that axle that will help you get wherever you want to go...

best body protection, runners on the side, and some skids (some are for and some are against skids, im pro skids when their done right, factory stuff is garbage!) get some beef on the bumpers and your laughing at anything that gets in the way...

Dont blame ya on the Interior, my ZJ has some burnt leather in the backseat... just kills me...

I keep hearing about stock f150 coils for the front to get a 4" lift and I forget what leafs for rear maybe s10. Myself I'm cheap I run coils out of the back of a 94 sidekick with custom mounts and longer shocks in the rear of my cheap heep

Yup, f-150 coils in the front, bastard pack s-10 leafs or Dakota leafs in the rear, or get a cheap lift, I did a 4" procomp lift for a friend, put it in in a day, it's on 34" tsls with no fender trimming for just shy of 1100 bucks, so all in all including buying the jeep, he's into it for 1600 bucks,
