Not to go off topic, but.. I assure you $1700 for my Jeep is a steal with the new parts installed. 4.0L 4x4 works great, very small amount of rust in the normal spots. If I wanted to sit and wait to sell it when the time comes, I could get $2500-3000 easily..

Greetings,
Investment???? Try pork bellies. A Jeep is not an investment, it's a lifestyle. If you're looking for a winter car, buy a $300 Chevy and throw it away next year. Jeez, I'm located in Canada too...maybe we're neighbors!!!!

I'm located in Oakville, Ontario. I looked at the body and underneath the jeep and it's not very rusty. My dad's honda is more rusted than this. The interior is in good condition. Like I said before they were able to move the car by pushing it down the street, so this indicates to me that the brake lines, rotors and brakes are working, atleast I hope it's working. I will be taking a closer look tonight, can you guys provide any info on what to else look for and any tips on getting it started. Thanks

Well just to be clear, being able to push a vehicle only means things aren't seized. And just because brakes work to stop a rolling car, does not mean they can stop a vehicle at speed,or that they will pass safety. OK put it this way. I just bought another 96 Grand Cherokee with next to nothing rust wise, Limited fully loaded. All it needs is some tires, windshield, rear brakes and a muffler. Came with a current E-test and all. for $300. I have to say after everything you have said, this Jeep you are looking at isn't worth near what they are asking. Not even close! If you really like it that much, then I would suggest they get it running for you at that price so you can test drive it and make sure the tranny is good etc. Otherwise I am willing to bet that you will be buying yourself a money pit and that is it. They took it off the road for a reason, and yet they can seem to give you a reasonable answer to your questions.

Tell you what (one time offer) come on down and I will sell you mine for $1500 as is right now! Just add a muffler, sway bar link and an alignment and you should be good to go.

Mr. 98,
Do you have a good mechanic whom you trust? I would suggest that the neighbor get the Jeep running, take it to your mechanic and have him/her check it out well and give you an estimate for a safety check. If you don't have a mechanic, take it to ANY garage and do the same as I suggested.
We're talking $$ here to buy this unknown vehicle. Spend a few $$ and maybe save yourself future grief. I'm not crapping on the vehicle, it may be a good deal, but protectgyourself. Spend a few $$ and have it checked out. I wouldn't want you to be turned off Jeeps by buying a wreck.

Just wanted to give everyone an update on what happened with the Jeep. So on Saturday I went over to check out the jeep. I met with her and her brother and he explained that the jeep never gave him any problems and he assured me that it's most likely the starter and nothing else serious wrong with the car. So after a bit of going back and forth about the price he sold the car to me for $800 and said that I could work on it at her house just to get it started. On Sunday I went over with my buddy and it turns out it was the starter, the jeep only has 143768 kms. We put octane booster in the gas tank and drove it my house. So today I dropped off the car to get safety and emissions which shouldn't cost me an arm and leg. Just wanted to say thanks for all the help.
