1989 transmission

What transmission was used in the 1989 Cherokee's. Are they known for problems and are there solutions...

I have an aisin warner auto matted to my 4.0L and yeah they have problems.
My overdrive and third slips ALOT so I shift it like a manual ie:first,third,then drive.
I'm currently looking for a low milage used one to replace it. If I find any quick fixes or tips i will post them in xj forum.
