The YJ is an 88 with the 2.4L 4 cylinder and a 5 speed manual tranny. I am looking at a 4.0L Inline 6 as my engine lacks some power and has developed a cold. So am looking at swapping it out with the 6.

Any advice is greatly accepted.

2.4?, I thought the YJ's came with a 2.5? Learn something new everyday.
If your talking about the AX5 tranny then yes it was an option for the YJ. BUT if your going to just change the engine your going to have to get the PCM, ECM, and various other parts/ connectors of the wiring harness from the 4.0L donor to let the engine and tranny talk to each other properly.
May be easier to find a cheap donor/ parts car with the 4.0L/ AX5 in it and then you can take what you want.
