i'm still stuck on the idea of a knife being a 'starter'. What does that even mean?

 

Means it isn't a great knife that will last forever, it's an entry investment rather then spending alot on something that may never get used. You get a "starter" of a product if you enjoy the activity and use it alot then later on down the road buy a premium quality version.
