New 2014 Cherokee

Looking at the new Cherokee. Wonder what you think?
Reading a lot of write ups.
Some like it, some don't. I do.
Design is different and bold. Pricey!
Trailhawk model has offroad capabilities.
Never be a Wrangler!
But for trails crappy roads, snow, ice mud. Should be good.
What do you think?

Airdale,

I took a look around at quite a few reviews and yes, it seems to be a love hate situation.
The new Cherokee can be quite the package but it needs to be configured just right. I would go for the V6 over the four cylinder model, and of course a 4X4 setup.
I don't mind the looks of the Trailhawk and it's more up my alley in terms of off road.
It will never be a Wrangler but will get the job done.
Sales are through the roof so people are buying them, seeing them on the road more and more too.
I'd say take one out for a test drive and see what you think.

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

I picked mine up yesterday in London. It is white/black trim..
No dealer will receive any unless it is ordered.
I got the last one available between Windsor and London.
They can't build them fast enough for stocking a dealership..
Canada is only 4 % of Jeep sales and the majority are for U.S. markets.
Europe has the diesel and 6 speed models but not NA.
Lots of electronics and sensors. Locking rear axle and 5 - 4 x 4 settings.
Sits up 2 " over the regular Cherokee. Tough looking.
See how it goes.

NO KIDDING !!!

@Airdale - BIG congrats on the new Cherokee !
How are you liking it? I bet you've been in 4X4 quite a bit with all this snow.
Look into getting some pics up here for us to gander at.

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

Cherokee is pretty sweet. Sold my 2011 Wrangler Sport to get this one.
Trailhawk is offroad ready with skid plates and tow hooks. 9 speed tranny and 7 options for 4x4 including rear locker and rear lockout so I can have front wheel drive only on dry highways. [summer]
Hope the pictures work out!

Jeep is pretty good in the snow. went through some deep drifts. No issues.
Seems to be as good as the Wrangler for normal driving on snow and ice.
Wrangler [2 Dr]seemed light where the Hawk seems heavier probably because it is lower.
Less ground clearance than the Wrangler.

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

Very nice. it looks comfy inside, how does it ride on the highway?

Airdale 03-14-2014 08:45 AM

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

The Hawk is a nice ride. Has the rugged Jeep firm attitude with Grand Cherokee options.
My Wrangler [2011] had good seating and rugged additude and the Hawk has the same but smoother. The Wrangler Sahara could be fitted with all the same features but Wrangler is a definite Offroad leader.
Hawk is lifted 2.0" higher than the stock Cherokee with skid plates and tow hooks and if you look at any of the YouTube flicks, it is quite capable offroad. It is trail rated and tested at MOAB.
Has some new stuff, 9 spd tranny and need to see how that works long term. New motor in the 3.2ltr.
I don't plan on a lot of offroad, I did that with my CJ7. But, I am a Jeep guy [this is #8] and I wanted 4x4 with a good towing capacity [4500lb] and some options.
So far I have it all!

This new Cherokee kinda reminds me of the 1985 Chevy Nova come back.:SELLIT:

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

It has features that many SUV models have. But it has one they don't have but wish they did!

It says JEEP on it!

Airdale,

Really glad to hear you like your Trailhawk, it's growing on me more and more everyday !
What do you find are the best interior features?
And yes, there are imitators out there, missing one thing though...
THEY AREN'T GRACED WITH JEEP ON THE FRONT!

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

This Jeep has multiple 4x4 settings and has a rear axle locker as well as a rear axle unlocker that allows front wheel drive only!
It has all the features of the Grand and many of the Wrangler but with more offroad capability than an SUV. Very comfortable and roomy. The manual is like a phone book and still getting to know it.
It is a first year vehicle and time will tell. They have had a few issues that have been resolved.
I have had [8] Jeeps to date. CJ, YJ, TJ and Cherokees including a Grand. I sold my 2011 Wrangler to get the Trailhawk. So far, not sorry.
I am in the Windsor area as well. Look for a White Hawk. Easy to spot the Hawk.
Red tow hooks front and back and jacked up.

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

One thing I'm curious about is fuel consumption. The figures they advertise are rediculous but what are you getting in the real world?

Airdale 03-19-2014 03:58 PM

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

I have about 800 kms on it now. When I started I was averaging about 13.5 mpg.on the dash computer. Now I am in the low 20's average. Getting better. I will check with fill up to fill up after I do 1000miles [1600kms] and my first oil change.

Airdale,

I've yet to see a white one anywhere on the road.
All the ones I've seen, which haven't been many Trailhawks were the Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearlcoat.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for you out there!
Happy trails:biggrin:

Any chance the Mods can set up a new forum for the new Cherokee?

Airdale 07-19-2014 07:09 PM

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

Starting to see quite a few of them on the road now! Should have a forum section for them.

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

Regarding the gas mileage. I have the 3.2 V6 motor with about 3500 kms on it now and drove to London a few weeks ago.
Trip computer average was 27.8 mpg.highway.[8.2ltr/100] Getting about 21 mpg city.[11.2ltr/100]
Right where they advertise it..

Airdale,

Sounds like your Jeep is right on the money for economy, may see an improvement yet with a few more thousand kms.

oldfart 07-23-2014 10:23 PM

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

That's pretty impressive mileage, especially the city mileage. Highway mileage was about what I expected, it is after all an aerodynamic brick with rounded corners. It must also have a fair bit of oomph with the v6 under the hood. How are you liking the transmission?

Airdale 07-24-2014 11:14 AM

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

Yes, it is right where it should be and should be better after 8 - 10 k on it.
This is a nice Jeep!

Airdale 07-25-2014 04:58 PM

Re: New 2014 Cherokee

The Cherokee has a lot more balls than my Wrangler had and is pretty peppy.
As for the 9 speed. It has a few flat spots in it depending on what I am doing!
There are ongoing updates for the 9 speed. It is all computer controlled and they are changing setups to get it better. I have only had one update but there is another available. It is not a biggy because it runs fine, just could be better.
I plan on going in for the latest update next week or so.
