New 2010 jeep Patriot
Ok i've been told different things and am wondering if anyone here would be able to give me some solid advice on this subject or where to find advice. Me and my girlfriend just picked up a 2010 patriot with the 2.4L and i've been told by a preformance shop guy that these motors are just beasts waiting to be woken up and by putting an srt4 turbo system in it, because it's the same motor that is in the calibers, doing spark plugs exhaust and an air filter that I can unleash a whole whack of power which I thought was great until I was talking to a fellow jeep friend who has an 07 wrangler with the 2.4L and he was talking to a 4x4 shop that told him those motors will burn out if anything over an extra 75 hp was added. It's my gf's truck so it's not gonna see anymore offroad than a campsite and maybe the odd gravel road she's pretty much a pavement queen the stress of offroading will never occur on this jeep. Would I be safe with the turbo or should I supercharge because those can be tuned to obtain a specific horsepower price wise doesn't make much difference cause in research and connections they run about the same price to do. Any help, suggestions, prior attempts would be muchly apprciated and I apologize for the novel. Thanks
I guess it comes down how you want to drive it, if your a speed demon (which a Jeep isn't) I'd go with a supercharger for the simple reason that it's working at the exact rpm of your engine at all times. I've found over the years that people with big turbos on small engines tend to take out the engine because they will stomp on the skinny pedal and there is always the small pause before the turbo pressures up and hammers your drivetrain hard. Superchargers don't do this.
Strictly personal opinion though.
Why are you looking at this route just out of curiousity?

Well I wasn't originally I was only planning small upgrades and than got the bug when I was told how compatible it all was a couple of friends of mine have the Srt4's and they are pretty fun but like I said it's my girlfriends ride and she doesn't really need that much power but I have noticed it is rather gutless and if you want to pass anyone around here where unless your doing 20 over your goin to slow it is not that great on the pickup and go and wanted to give it a little more kick so when you need to hammer on it you can and you will get results.
anyone who suggest a turbo installation is either easy or cheap has never done one. There are many thing to address, manifolds, injectors and fuel mapping to mention just a few, and if you want to run more than around seven pounds of boost you will need forged pistons.
The common opinion i've found so far is it's not worth all the energy money and time thank you for the info for those of you that offered actual help and Billytoronto Like i said in post 1,2,and now this one it is my girlfriends jeep and of course we test drove it but because it is hers I was not the one that test drove it she did I did not find out it wass gutless until she mentioned it after we bought it and than I drove it but for her needs around the city it works great i'm concerned about highway driving and was like I sadi only planning small upgrades to help which is why I phoned the preformance shop than I figured i'd ask people with jeep knowledge more than mine and turbo guy and find out if it's worth it. In the future unless your gonna offer actual help please don't post opinions I know everyone has one but not everyone needs to hear them. Stupid idea or not i'm glad I asked before I went and bought a bunch of parts that would undoubtedly crater that jeep. Thank you everyone
Dude,
sorry you didn't get the response you wanted.
Maybe next time you will grow a pair
and ask for the keys
before your gf signs on the dotted line.
Hope it all works out for you...

You obviously didn't read the other post I did get what I wanted which was info and wether I could do it or not your comment was just ignorant and uncalled for so i'm sorry that you feel it necessary to shoot others down in a negative manner to make yourself feel good hope you get help with that.
