Default My New Toy - Jeep Wrangler

Hello, I am new to this site. It looks like a great place for information.

SO I picked up a 2008 Jeep Wrangler X Unlimited in Calgary. It already has 34" Baja Claw tires and a 5" lift installed by the dealer.

I will be driving across Canada from Calgary to Newfoundland In June. I am wondering how much wear I will be putting on those tires. How severe will it be under those conditions.

After I do a lot of highway driving this summer I will be shipping the jeep to Nunavut where I will be doing 100% off road. There is no pavement here at all.

Any tips or advice? Thanks!

Get some really good winter rated tires for Nunavut.

I've heard that M/T's are not the greatest tires in winter conditions and they wear pretty fast on the road. I missed the part about no roads. Since you'll be offroad most of the time due to lack of roads, they'll probably be pretty good. Only one way to find out for sure.

Also, those tires have a directional tread pattern meaning they can't be swapped from side to side on the Jeep.

They look great.

Sweet lookin jeep! I had similar tires on my ZR2 and they are alright in the snow but SUCK on ice. The rubber gets to hard in the cold and the tread might aswell be hockey pucks. No sipes at all to grip ice.

Thats a long drive. Did it in August last year. I think that will be the last time too! Out to Cape Breton to visit the soon to be inlaws.

What dealer is that by the way?

I decided to buy the stock tires and will be putting them on for the big trip. I didn't want to take a chance that my nice tires would be dead by the time I got to NL.

I repurchased the stock tires and wheels from the dealer for $800.

The SOB should have given them to after all most places now when you buy a new vehicle it has the regular tires on them and there giving free winter tires at least thats it in Quebec now that the law says in winter you must have winter tires on. There are a few exceptions: Like if you run LT tires you can run them all year round. This is good till I believe 2011 when they want to change it for everyone to have winter tires.. Nice jeep.don't forget the camera we want pics
