Default Lift kit uh-oh?

i bought this kit
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/jeep-li...-375-combo.htm
and had it installed today, looks sweet. did a bit of local driving, all was good. tonight on my way to my gfs i was driving at about 80km/h on a bumpy road. the jeep started to shake violently after going thru a section of bumps. the only thing i could do to control it was brake down to about 40km/h then it was oka nd i could speed up again. happened 2 more times on the same road. seemes to be only when multiple bumps. one or two not a deal at all.

any ideas?

Do you have a steering stabilizer? This should prevent shaking of the direction.

Sounds like death wobble, google it and read what it is. A stabilizer might help and stop it from starting and it might not. There is a ton of info about this and it is a common problem with lifted coil spring vehicles. It can start if u have loose bolts of worn bushing on front end parts. I would start by checking all the bolts on the front end and make sure they are tight. Looks like your lift didn't come with a new trackbar, i would also recomend an adjustable trackbar with 3.5in of lift. I have never went over 2.5in and have never got death wobble so i am not really an authority on this problem, will be others here that can give u way better advice. Like i said above , do a google search on death wobble and u will find a ton of info...it sounds bad but is usually an easy fix, sometimes just hard to find the cause. Hope this helps, and it is an easy fix!

well jeep4x4center seemes to think that i just have to have a nut changed on my track bar... im not buying that, ordered heavy duty steering stabilizers, something i wanted to change anyways. hopefully will be here by the weekend. while im installing that im gonna make sure everything is tightened and try not to freak out. if that doesnt work im gonna try a new track bar.

I had serious death wobble in my jk. I bought kevins off road jk death wobble solution kit. It's a new track bar with extra hard bushings, and a heavy duty steering stabilizer with relocation bracket. Also, make sure you don't have excessive air pressure in your tires. Read up about Boyle's Law, a link is found on kevin's off road's website. I run my 35's at about 24psi. No death wobble in over a year since I made these changes, and it had been an almost daily (and very scary) occurrence. Also correct this now. Death wobble is extremely hard on the front end of your jeep, many components will wear prematurely if you don't deal with it.

True! haven't think about it but if you have larger tires you better go lower psi. What you read on the sticker inside your doors is not good for larger than stock tires.

Death wobble is different for everyone. sorry guys ive been busy.

a few weeks back i jumped the gun and ordered heavy duty steering stabilizers from rough country. im glad i did. when i finally got to checking the track bar i found 0 play in it. everything was a -ok.

tonight we installed the steering stabilizers. 99% solved.

i do have some serious praise for this kit and the install. super easy to do. direct bolt on, highly recomended. http://www.jeep4x4center.com/rough-c...?utm_source=cj

the stock stabilizer ( keep in mind i have a 2008) was completely finished. i could move the piston in and out like an accordian.

while on the lift we went over the whole front end. found some serious play in the tie rod ends. that will be next to change. gonna get some heavy duty and change the knuckles at the same time. might as well while im taking it all appart.

im sure that changing that up will eliminate the other 1% wobble remaining.

now then, what ive learned from all this. do your research. i had no clue as to what death wobble was until after i had the problem. knowing this ahead of time i would have ordered a more complete suspension kit complete with steering stabilizers and track bar.

live and learn
