hey phil,

this is funny, i also have a 2011 sahara unlimited too. im currently browsing some better tires for my stock jk and going to a 17inch wheel. ive been calling installers and they seem to think that a 285 70/R17 would fit a stock jk. its 32.7inches tall , almost 33inches. with the stock 18's i dont think you would want to go past 275/65 R18.....thats my best guess. im a brand new member so im sure someone will help you out better than me :)

People are putting 12.50 width tires on stock rims with no issues. The problem you may run into is that some tire shops will not mount wide tires on rims that are narrower than the mfg's spec for that tire. Same thing for wheel spacers, some shops won't mount or rotate tires if you are running them.

Biggest tire for stock JK with stock flares is a 33 x 11.5 without issues of rubbing. If you go with a set of 1.5" wheel spacers you can go with a 33x12.50. I have seen guys fit 35's by either chopping the stock fender flares or running a flat flare and bumpstops.

Not a big fan of spacers or putting tires on rims smaller than recommend by tire manufacturer, (they do that for very valid reasons!) The money you can save by going down to 16" tires will almost pay for replacement rims (as long as your not "blinging" it out) which will have the correct backspacing to eliminate spacers AND will be the recommended width for the tires. I've got 285/70 - 16's on 8" wide rims (measure out just shy off 33"s) fit with no rubbing, everything tucks nicely under the stock fenders (with the extra backspacing) and look great with the big sidewalls, the look you loose by staying with 18" rims.

I think you have a point.... The 16 inch rubber is much cheaper is it?

If you want to keep your stock wheels, get some 285-65-18's. Over an inch wider and over a half inch taller. Anyone who likes Jeeps will notice, the rest won't - but who cares?
