Dash? noise

Dash? noise
Morning all,
I hope this won't be an expensive question but...on moderate to hard braking, while coming to a stop, I have a whirring noise that seems to come from somewhere around the lower dash (ash tray area). It appears to be speed dependant (winds down as I slow). Also occurs when going slowly over speed bumps (no braking)-bump up and down-slight whir. It's the same whether or not any or all accessories are on or off. I mentioned this to my mechanic (sharp guy and I TRUST his judgement/opinion) and he was sure it was not related to transmission. Has developed in the last couple of months and is not getting better or worse. Any guesses/opinions? It's driving me more nuts than I already am!!!!

Thanks, Peter

Re: Dash? noise
Could it be the upper cv on the front driveshaft. Its kind of in that area and they do go bad. Take a look at the boot on it and see if its torn. Sorry its my best guess. Did you try listening with the windows down?
