Question Charging issue

Hey I hope you guys can help me out here.

I have a 1990 YJ with a brand new batt and alternator and the car will not charge the battery! When i check the voltage at the Alt batt+ post i only get 10.40 and slowly decreasing. I thought that there may be a wiring issue so i removed and cleaned all of the terminals and still no charge!

like i said it's a brand new alternator and the old one was doing the same! anybody got any ideas? I thought about the in line breakaway fuse things but don't know how to test them. Should they not go to an open circut if blown making there no voltage at the alternator?

Could it be the starter sol?

Please HELP im desprate!

Dont know if its a starter issue?

Starter only gets the Jeep running, if it aint workin, your jeep ain't running.

check all your grounds, especially the big 3. might be poor ground draining the juice from your system.

good luck!!

Did you ever have it that there may be a dead spot on the starter, like sometimes its starts right up and other times you turn the key and theres nothing at all? This could be bad connections or starter (mind was starter). If its the starter it won't start even with the old screwdriver trick. Also could be a bad battery (it does happen with a new one) if you bot it recently from Cdn Tire take it back usually under 3 years replacement free.
If you end up having to buy a rebuilt starter try: Cdn Tire and CarQuest compare the prices

How did you make out with the charging system? I come across on my wifes Yj, the alt output cable has a quick disconennet and it was very corroded- hard to see unless you take it apart. Are you getting 14 volts at the alt and 12 at the battery?

Did you get this problem fixed yet ? If not I would start with voltage drop tests. If you need help with that let me know. Another quick test for an altenator is a jumper wire of full battery voltage to the field on the alt. That should max out it's voltage to see if it is working but I do realize it's new.
