Default 98 tj np231j issues

just wondering if anyone has had a problem with their np231j where the jeep kicks from 2wd into 4hi while under acceleration or load. its not pleasant also lots of noise when i full turn and drive in a circle. i assume its my planetaries since the jeep shouldnt put power to the front with it in 2wd there should be no power to the front axle? any thoughts?

I would check the linkage and see if it's slipping at all. There shouldn't be any power going to the front axle when it's not engaged.
Are all your tires the same size?
