Hi, I have a '97 jeep grand cherokee.

question 1:

My catalytic converter is rattling inside (I checked the heatshield, it's good) and I am wanting to just get rid of it. I'm wondering if I were to put in a piece of exhaust pipe instead (and weld in a bung for the O2 sensor) if the jeep would still run ok?

question 2:

I have a shifting problem with this jeep (automatic) When starting out with the shifter in 'drive', the transmission makes the shift from 1st to 2nd, but then shifts back into 1st for a split second, and then back into 2nd. from then on it runs perfectly, until you stop and start out again. If I floor it until it shifts into 2nd, it doesn't seem to happen...

Would anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

question 1:

I think its illegal to not have a catalytic converter , depends where you live.

Are you running this on the street?
