Shimmy Shock
Hi There
I have a 2008 Wrangler X.
Several times I get a VERY serious wobble in the front end after hitting a bump.
Twice I have the front steering stabilizer replaced and it again is giving me trouble, all this with 38000Km.
I was going to put an aftermarket shock on but my parts guy said this is a Chrysler issue.
Apparently when the fron axle was put together, it bent the axle tube.
Looking for comments, suggestions or what ever.
There are pictures available on youtube showing the problem, many call it "death wobble"
Thanks
FJH

The steering stabilizer does not cure this problem. You could use dual stabilizers and it still won't cure the problem, just mask it. AAMOF a steering stabilizer is not even required in this application. Your issue is most likely a loose steering or suspension component, Check and torque your trackbar bolts, ball joints and tie rods. Death Wobble will cause pre mature failure of steering components.
DW (death wobble) is a big issue in RAM 2500 and 3500 pickups

JTPhoto is right. Have it check out.
And I'm not "dishing" parts guys but they sell parts.
They're not auto techs, well some are but most aren't.
Question do you have a lift? big tires? etc.
Do you pictures of your rig to show us?

The parts guy is a Jeep owner and when I explained my problem, he suggested that I check with Jeep and not to buy the part because he also feels it is just a band aid.
He said that certain front ends made on 07 were manufactured in such a way that the tube attached to the housing was bent.
What I am hoping is that fine people like youselves, may of heard of this problem and know what will be required to get it fixed.
The Jeep is 08 Wrangler X with 38000Km. We have no modifications as this is the wife's Jeep. The shock has been replaced twice already and again it is screwed up.
I will be taking your kind advice and have it in the garage to get the front end checked and aligned as well as check the tires. (Dont want to put on the war paint and find out I should of done that). I have my fingers crossed hoping that will cure the problem.
Again gentlemen, thank you.

Yes I have heard of a bent axle tube causing DW. After your alignment and check up, you might try putting a long straight edge against the axle tube to see if you can see a bend. The fix is to replace the complete differential housing.
Increasing the castor may reduce/eliminate the problem however there is no adjustment on a stock vehicle for this. One shouldn't have to add adjustable control arms to a stock vehicle to address this problem, once again it is only masking the underlying problem.

Big NEWS on the tube the other evening people are complaining about the new RAM's and their "Death Wobble"... crap jeep owners have been having this for years and nothing has been done yet... so RAM boys don't hold your breath..
This is not just a Jeep or RAM issue. Any vehicle with a front straight axle is susceptible to DW. I had 2 farm tractors that would go into DW if I drove them too fast on the road.
The problem is Chrysler needs to find the route cause for those that have the issue and repair it. None the less, the number of affected units is minimal and like the hot transmission issue until its proven that its a wide ranging problem, that can possibly affect most/all units it won't get fixed.

If your axle tube is bent...would that not be the problem? All the suspension, steering parts and alignments aren't going to fix or compensate for a bent axle housing but it will wear out your bearings,
diff and tires.
