Default Rattling Sound between 2000 and 3000 RPM

I just recently bought a 2007 Sahara Unlimited with 93k on it. I got all the fluids changed. From diffs to tranny to oil to transfer case.. the whole 9 yards. Since then, I hear a rattling noise at 2000 rpm when driving and around 2500-3000RPM when in park. The sound is like mettal vibrating or clanging on metal. Not a ticking sound at all... all CLANG! It sounds like it's coming from the tranny, but may be the engine. I don't know if I started noticing it after to fluid changes or if it was doing it prior to the changes. Has anyone had this issue? How did you fix it? I hope im not screwed....

HELP ME! ! ! !

thanks

Al

Check underneath. Did they have to take off skid plate to drain tranny? Might be loose or not on right.

definately no a spary knock... It happens between 2 and 3 thousahd rpm and sounds like it could be the drive shaft or tranny. I'm going to check the skid plate first, but I've heard the drave shafts is the '07+ Jeeps have a small history of driveshaft problems with noinse at or above 2000 rpm...

thanks for the help

I have had a similar sound. I have had some success with (get this) burping the air from the cooling system and topping the coolant up.. Seriously sounded like a tranny issue, but as the sound could be heard only above certain rpms, I got some help and traced it to the metal heater core supply lines. ( I think). There are some el cheapo non mandrel bend with crimps and when the coolant flow heated up and the pump rev'd, there is some sort of restriction.
Take a partner out on a drive with the glove compartment removed and a cheap stethoscope...
I still have a faint sound, but I think I can live with it.

thanks for the info. I'm bringing it to the dealer soon. In drive between 1st and 3rd gear at 2000 rpm exactly it with rattle and "Zing" constantly... I'll update the thread when I FINALLY get a definitive answer... Thanks again

Hello Al
Like Peter said, check the heat shield. I've seen this problem a couple of times before, it's rare but I seen it. you will most likly need a couple of cheap nuts part# 06104715AA or #55395955AA
If you do go to the dealer ask the advisor for a jeep mechanic, there is always a mechanic who is more into Jeeps then the others. He will solve the problem faster the first time. If you don't ask for a special Tech it's a crap shoot.
I check for TSB's for your complaint don't find any.
Good luck and happy Jeeping

Good luck to ya. My 50cents...if it's a 'tinny' sound I vote heat sheild as others have posted. Heat sheilds are not made of heavy steel, they are pretty thin. If the sound is more of heavy metal (no pun intended) I would say a skid plate is loose.

I'd slide under the Jeep and take a peak regardless.

I've narrowed it down to the heat shield... I just don't know if there's a rock caught between the exhaust pipe and the shield or if it's the shield itself... I don't see any loose welds or missing nuts, but I'm off to my friend's garage ASAP to try and figure this out.

Thanks for all the replies everyone...

I'll hopefully have an answer for ALL OF US in the coming weeks.
