98 tj Tranny issues

Default 98 tj Tranny issues

So i picked up a 98 tj 4cyl , trans is stuck in 5th gear shifter will not move at all , i put it in 4low the jeep will move , but the clutch pedal is almost all the way out before it engages!i'm just not sure where to start with it , trans rebuild and clutch , guess i'll have to pull it apart to check it out! Has anyone had similar problems???

Does it grind if you try to shift out of 5th? Can you move the shifter with the engine off?

No it doesn't move at all ! whether started or turned off ,nothing !

It sounds like someone kept driving with a worn out clutch. You'll probably need to replace the clutch and rebuild or replace the trans. You might be able to get a good deal on a used one. Good luck!

thanks ! I'm going to pull out the tranny , will do clutch aswell should be fun!
