Camping to Myrtle Beach
 

Hi everyone, I'm planning to may be go camping to Myrtle Beachm ,..., from Montréal, first two weeks of August.

I'm used to go to Ocean City NJ, did it more than 15 times. Now planning to go more South.

First I have a 2012 2dr JK with no AC, my AC is no top.

I have few questions.

Soft top vs Hard Top. I know that if I were to go to Ocean City, I would keep my Soft Top, it's a pretty much safe area. How about Myrtle Beach ? Often having a license plate from elsewhere you're prone to trouble.

Also we have no AC in our camping trailer, would the Myrtle Beach State Park better than others because there is more trees ? Open to any suggestions.

Anything else to know about, roads to forget about, ... ?

Would go down with this setup.

Cannot answer ur questions as never been to M. beach, but nice set up I like the trailer not to large for a Jeep to pull.

Thanks, only 1600lbs with our stock, I've raised the trailer by 6 inches installing a new axle, and did so many other things, after all it is a 1973, we got it 5 years ago, so I did a lot of modifications, restoral, frame re-inforcement, ..., but at the end it costs me 5000$, it's almost like new, it just would need a new paint job, planned in two years. Now with the Jeep I can go fishing in a lot of remote places with it.

Will buy an 'window' AC for it this weekend and mod it to fit when needed.

Did you finish building up that camper yet Mich? I know last time I saw it was unfinished, and wondering if you had that hardtop installed yet or not? Just wondering if it fits alright.

If your wondering hard top vs soft top vs no top for fuel milage. I would say no top is the worst, hard top and soft top are the same on the highway. BUT i did find that hard top was better for puttering around in the city. I find my fuel milage spikes with my new soft top in the city.

Would love to see pics of that hard top installed and the inside of the trailer when your done with it!

Haven't try the hard top yet, enjoying the summer with the soft one. I will put it on only around September.

On long rides without the top, I was able to get the same milage, I think the force and direction of the wind is the big factor with the Jeep.

Since we're planing to go down South, my work on the trailer will be to fit an AC unit, and just re-pack the bearings. The interior is done,, exterior paint job and changing front and back windows for tinted ones will be next year.

And I will put back the dark curtains we had in the Windows, these one are letting too much sun in the morning.

great job! I'll have to ask you for help with mine when I get my little camper! I really want a small job, looking to get the biggest bed i can fit into it, little table, sink small stove and a small propane powered fridge, exterior propane line for a RVQ to hang off the side. Decent size tank of onboard fresh and grey water house batteries and solar panels. If you ever wanted to go the solar panel route i saw a really nice pack of solar panels at walmart, was thinking could be used to mount to the roof maybe and setup some sort of electrical charging system.

Well I think this camper is enough to go on myrtle beach.... because the weather is not so much hot there and you don't need an AC.. Because when i visit that its March and the weather is very charming.. I think should find something that what you need to carry with you. But I think your preparation is enough.. Good luck
