Newbie saying hello

Hi all, I just thought I would take a moment to introduce myself. I am new to Jeeps and just picked up a 1990 with what appears to be a 78-79 CJ 4.2l engine. I "drove" it home last night, well more limped than drove, as it ran like a bag of you know what! I did the "Nutter" ECM bypass and set the timing to 8* btdc and WOW what a difference today. After a quick idle adjustment (it had been severely adjusted just to keep it running I guess) it runs quite well. It has an ~ 3" body lift with 31x10.5x15s on it. The rust repair was tackled by the ppo and po, and the engine and trans installed by the po. The repair isn't pretty close up, but it appears to have done well enough.

I have a question about the BA-10 trans in it. It sounds as though 1-3 have straight cut gears (you know that whine they make), but 4 and 5 are quiet. Can this be bearing somewhere? Are those 1-3 gears on the same shaft? I have access to a "broken" BA-10 for free. Are these worth the time or effort, or should I just save a few more $ and find an AX-15?

Here is a pic just for fun :)
It is very yellow...

edit: Also came with a soft top and all the parts needed to safety :)

Well I managed to break some pieces last night. Spent an evening in the sand pits a couple of friends. The single carb worked very well and pulled hard, though the tires don't have much for lugs so it will get worse with "better" tires. On the way home I shifted from 4-5 down the high-way and "CLUNK" my rear drive shaft broke the nose off the transfer case :( It also manages to bang up the exhaust a little, but not much damage all in all. I still can't quite figure out why it broke the way it did. Any thoughts?
