looking for a pair of axles

im looking to upgrade my yj axles.im running 35s on my stock stuff.was thinking about a set of dana 44s but have been perswaded to go with anything but those due to parts being expencive and harder to find.would like 410s or lower.im in the hamilton area but can travel abit.

Re: looking for a pair of axles

dana 44 IS the way to go if you can locate something, their stronger (which is the main idea of changing) get 4.10, 4.56 or even 4.88 depending on what size tires you wish to run.If you wish to put in a GOOD locker this is the best type of axle to do it with. D35 are small and much easier to snap. This is my problem right now I want to upgrade too but would rather put in a 03 ruby axle already has the locker and 4.10, but they don't drop from the sky. The posting I put for the 93 yj for sale, the fellow is now selling it as parts note the axle he has on it. You might get it from him price I could ask if your interested, again hes in the Montreal area rather far for you.

Re: looking for a pair of axles

You could use a ford 8.8 from an explorer, they're plentiful in the jy's and came stock with various ratios. There's no carrier break and they're stronger than a 44. Some even have disk brakes. You might have to change the position of the spring pads but that's no biggy.

Re: looking for a pair of axles

thats what i was thinking.maybe 9 inch or 8.8.its cheaper then the 44 and easy to find parts if needed.

Those D44's can also be found in the rear of a Isuzu Rodeo, but a ford 9 is way easier to find and they are just plain cool.

Re: looking for a pair of axles

go for either pair of 44`s off a scout or a 8.8 ford explorer rear diff ,easy to get too!

the ford 9" is harder to find , and the yoke is terribly low .....not recommend on a jeep !

Re: looking for a pair of axles

yea some1 else said to put a ford9 inch and the 44 out of a ford bronco.1978ish to 1980. so im not sure exactly what way to go.i also heard the 8.8 and stay with the dana 30.just get better axles.im not rich some the cheaper the better but i want to spend enuff so im not breakn stuff.i havent broke anything yet but i only run in the mud no rocks for my jeep.and i really need to get it up or chop the fenders as the 35s are a tight fit with 5.5 inches of lift.

Crying shame a good friend of mine was scrapping his bronco 2 -1980 something, think that thing had some good axles, I am sure you could have gotten them may be even the whole truck for parts really cheap.. (Montreal) But its gone now :(

Re: looking for a pair of axles

personnaly i woulndt go the 9" + dana 44 from bronco .....

in the rerar,go for a ford 8.8 from an explorer : cheap and good value .....
on a budget; keep your front dana 30.....never broke mine even on 37" ...but i dont beat in the trail,
trail lightly !
if ever it breaks, get a scout dana 44; fits under with ease !
