Emergency Brake Question for new rear end
 
Hi everyone. I'm new to the site and I'm glad I found this wonderful site online. I have been searching through the forums for an answer to this question but I have been unsuccessful. I apologize if this issue has been asked and resolved already. I have recently purchased my 3rd Jeep and its a 88 YJ that has been pretty much modified in every way. It has a Ford 8.8 inch rear end with disc brakes. I'm not sure if the disc brakes are stock on the ford rear axle or another modification. My question revolves around installing an emergency brake for this system. Two problems I see right away are the disc brakes when Jeeps normally have drum so stock Jeep cables will not work(I don't think). My other problem is the new height of the Jeep. It has about 10 inches of lift at least so again, stock length of cable will not reach from the caliper to the linkage junction on the driver's side of the frame where the stock cable would go. Has anyone out there ran into this when doing a lift and axle replacement?? I'm just looking for some ideas here because this is the last item holding me up to get my beast certified for the road. if its a newer Ford 8.8 it should be a caliper driven disc ebrake. i know alot of 8.8's are this way, if they were disc's, if it were a drum conversion then who knows what they may have used... pics always help!

some E-brakes operate by a "drum" on the inside the rotor (like my WJ jeep) and require seporate pads than those on the caliper... but i dont think the 8.8 was ever this way other than with original drum brakes...

pretty much you want to get the regular ebrake replacement cables for a vehicle with that axle/caliper coming stock, then retrofit it to work with your YJ's existing leaver... (taking split bolts or something similar to stop it from slipping, securing it to the cable and little split bracket with 2 notched out places for a cable, thats attached to your lever, and pulls forward when ebrake is applied...
